What BestPlaces Users Say about Stamford

Stamford, Connecticut is a city located in Fairfield County, just 30 miles outside of New York City. It is known for its vibrant downtown area, access to beaches and parks, and diverse population. With a population of over 130,000, Stamford is the third-largest city in Connecticut. This particular place has received a lot of attention from people considering moving there, with many turning to online reviews for insight. After reading through numerous user reviews on BestPlaces.net, it is clear that Stamford has a lot to offer, but also has its drawbacks. Overall, the city seems to be a popular choice for young professionals and families looking for a suburban feel with easy access to a major city.

According to user "John," Stamford is "a great place to live for young professionals." He praises the "abundance of job opportunities" and "a lively downtown with plenty of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options." He also mentions the "proximity to New York City" as a major perk. Another user, "Sara," echoes this sentiment, stating that "the location is unbeatable for anyone working in the city." She also appreciates the "gorgeous parks and beaches" in Stamford. However, user "David" cautions that the cost of living in Stamford is high, saying that "housing prices and property taxes are exorbitant." He also notes that "traffic can be a nightmare during rush hour."

While many reviewers have positive things to say about Stamford, some have had less than ideal experiences. User "Maria" shares that she "loved living in Stamford for the first few years," but has noticed a recent increase in crime and a decrease in the quality of schools. She also mentions that "the cost of living is constantly rising." User "Mark" expresses a similar sentiment, stating that "the cost of living is not worth the benefits." He also mentions that "the winters can be harsh, and the summers are humid and uncomfortable." Despite these challenges, it is clear from these reviews that Stamford continues to be a desirable place to live for many, with its location, job opportunities, and amenities being major draws for residents.

Great Place - High Cost - 4/16/2006
The Stamford/Norwalk Metro area is really a great place. I love Stamford and its downtown area. Very clean, Safe, Reliable public transit, nice downtown. moderate winter temperatures more on par with NYC than the rest of NE. Stamford has a great beach and public parks and libraries. Stamford also has some great towns around it - Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk - Job market is pretty strong if you have experience in a field like finance or accounting, insurance.
The Bad - Cost of Living is basically insane, I cant go out to eat around here without blowing 80 plus dollars, congestion is bad during peak rush hour going in either direction - especially toward NYC not as bad north during the mornings but coming home is a major drag...Also housing is insane I pay $800 for a small out of date studio near downtown and its a steal in this market - Great place to live and start a family awesome school system - I just graduated college though and the jobs that are here dont interest me, its too Read More
