Homestead, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County known for its close proximity to the Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. It has a population of approximately 70,000 residents and offers a suburban feel with a diverse community. The city is home to several military bases and has a strong agricultural presence. With such a unique location and demographic, let's take a look at what residents have to say about living in Homestead.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces, many residents enjoy living in Homestead for its affordable cost of living and friendly community. One user, named Maria, shares, "I have lived in Homestead for over 10 years and I love it. It's a quiet and peaceful place to live with affordable housing options." Another user, John, also appreciates the city's affordability, stating, "Homestead is a great place to live if you're on a budget. The cost of living is much lower compared to other cities in Florida."

While some praise the cost of living, others mention the city's natural surroundings as a major draw. As user Samantha explains, "Homestead is a beautiful place to live with the Everglades and Biscayne National Park right in our backyard. I love being able to explore nature and go on weekend hikes." Another resident, James, also appreciates the city's natural beauty, adding, "Homestead is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. We have great weather year-round and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy."

However, it's not all positive reviews for Homestead. Some users express concerns about the city's safety and lack of job opportunities. As user Sarah shares, "I have lived in Homestead for a few years and have noticed a rise in crime. It's a concern for me and my family." Another user, Robert, voices similar concerns, stating, "Homestead has limited job opportunities and the ones available don't pay well. It's a struggle for many families to make ends meet here."

In summary, Homestead, Florida seems to be a popular choice for those looking for affordable living and a strong connection to nature. However, there are also concerns about safety and job opportunities in the city. Overall, it appears to be a diverse and welcoming community with something to offer for everyone.

Seems fine to me - 5/8/2011
I have visited Homestead five times in the last six months and never had any problem there. Officials, store employees, people on the street and in restaurants all seemed polite and helpful. I have been around downtown and, like a lot of smaller cities, the recession has treated it hard, but it's still cute. People do seem to drive a little more wildly, however, so I learned to take precautions. It has a nice new Thai restaurant as well as a good Mexican one downtown. And you can't beat being between two interesting National Parks in one direction and Miami and the keys in the other. Location, location, location, and the Florida Freeway is great, now that tolls are Read More

City Of Homestead - 7/29/2010
I lived in Homestead for 10+ and yes, I agree things have changed. A lot of it has to do with the rapid growth that Homestead experienced during the real estate boom. It is very sad.

Homestead used to be a farming area, everyone new each other and many years ago it had that small town feeling that which has Been lost. Crime and break ins have gone up drastically. This is one of the reasons why I relocated.

The school system is very poor. Homestead is not known for good schools. If you are planning on raising a family this is not a good choice. I myself have no kids and yet I would not want to live in Homestead.

Hope this helps. Read More

Concerns of citizens of homestead - 1/31/2010
My brother lives in homestead and he has sharded his dislike for the area that he moved to. Everyday he has seen people speaking profanity in spanish to others like it was the normal language of the land. No matter how much money is spent in education today in America it will not turn it around. The system is broke and no matter who is in the white house it has gone on the same path as the Roman Read More

Homestead is Home - 10/17/2009
Ever since moving to the city in 2003 from Downtown Miami, I've been treated with respect and made to feel welcomed by the residents everywhere I go. I've been fortunate to have lived in several cities throughout the country and Homestead does not stand out as being any better or worse than say Virginia Beach, VA or San Diego CA. Two cities which I found to be welcoming as well. Today, Homestead is a crossroads of cultures due to its proximity to Miami, FL, gateway to the Americas. Homestead is not by any means the bustling metropolitan area of Miami proper but if you're looking for a laid back place to raise your family and still be within a short drive from the world famous beaches of South Beach while also close to fishing and scuba diving in the Keys then Homestead is the city for Read More

The comments don't even cover just how bad it is h - 10/10/2009
We have lived in Homestead for 10 years and to this day can not and do not consider this place home, in fact if it wasn't for reasons of being contractually bound for employment we'd leave immediately.

People are beyond rude, driving anywhere literally puts your life on the line (it's common for people to make right hand turns from the far left lane), trash is thrown all over the place, and English isn't even welcomed here. Both my husband and I were brought up to always say please, thank you, excuse me and to behave appropriately in public, we are definitely the exception, not the rule.

I've lived in both large cities and small tiny towns and I've never seen a place like Homestead or people like those who live here. Vulgarity, rudeness, overt obnoxious behavior, and complete lack of manners is the rule, not the exception in Homestead. While there are a few exceptions do not expect to be treated as anything but an inconvenience if you go into most Read More

Sad - 9/29/2008
What is saddest about these opinions are that they are true, and can you imagine what it must feel like for the people that were born and raised here?! I have lived here for over 8 years, moved here because of a job commitment and continue to stay here because I can't sell my house now. The second I sell my house, I will be back to the land of America! People use the system here to get whatever they want and steal the rest! I am tired of having to clean up my front yard everyday because people throw their trash out of their car windows! I am tired of having people say that I need to learn Spanish to live here! I am tired of people driving with no courtesy whatsoever for anyone else! This is no way to live! There are plenty of places in this country where hard work and good values mean something. Where courtesy is a way of life! Where people respect each other! But it isn't here, and that is very Read More

Is Homestead still in the US? - 5/29/2008
Moved from Southern Utah to South Florida in 2006. We had no other chance, but after two months we were already thinking about to get out here.
People are so rude, People are so selfish, People don't speak english, People come here to the US and try to adapt americans to their culture.
They don't even try to be proud to be in the States, they don't even try to adapt the multi culture. Why should they? Everything is in spanish, even to become a AMERICAN citiezen you get in spanish.
Teachers don't speak enough english and they teach?????
Homestead is for me a 3rd world country and just could South Florida off and give it to the latins.
Why I'm still here? Because we have a job commitment and hoping to get out asap.Read More

People are so rude here. - 3/7/2008
I moved back to Homestead after a few years away. What a mistake!
Is not the same thing anymore. I am not earning not even close to what I was earning at the place where I lived before. People changing lanes without signal light, running late yellow lights already red. This causes so many accidents. If you go grocery shopping, people with shopping carts trying to get ahead of you, and then turning back to give you a bad face. People actually fighting over a spot to the cashier, and what's worst, being rude to elderly persons. I truly want to go back to my other place.
I you consider moving here, please check not twice, but 5 times.
My days get better when I find nice people and I am nice to them. I wish we'd try a little harder. I'm not sure if I want this place for my kids to grow Read More

Pleople are so rude here. - 3/7/2008
When we moved back here after 7 years away, I couldn't believe how much it haschanged.
It's not the same thing any more. Even though a lot of people are not nice, I still believe there are some people that are trying to make a change in this city. People changing lanes without signal light, running in front of you with the shopping cart and then turning back to make a bad face.
I miss so dearly the town I used to live before. Santa Paula, CA.
It may cost a little more to live, but, I was happy over there. It's hot here in the summer, I wouldn't mind this if the other things were Read More

Used to be Nice, not anymore. - 5/19/2007
Homestead used to be a farming community, but since Hurrican Andrew, it has become a Section 8 (low income housing) hell hole. Therefore the crime is up, education down. Also, not many people speak english anymore. It's time to Read More
