What BestPlaces Users Say about Jacksonville

Background Information:

Jacksonville, Florida is a popular city located in the northeastern part of the state. It is known for its bustling city life, beautiful beaches, and diverse culture. With a population of over 900,000, Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida and offers a wide range of opportunities for residents. From its vibrant downtown area to its suburban neighborhoods, Jacksonville is a popular place to live for individuals and families alike. However, with any city, there are always pros and cons to consider when deciding to call it home.

User Reviews:

1. From "Samantha W." on BestPlaces.net: "I've lived in Jacksonville my whole life and I have to say, it's a great place to live. The weather is amazing, the people are friendly, and there is always something to do. However, the traffic can be a nightmare and the cost of living is definitely on the higher side."

2. From "John S." on BestPlaces.net: "Jacksonville has a lot to offer in terms of job opportunities and entertainment. However, as a resident for over 10 years, I have seen a decline in the overall safety of the city. Crime rates have been on the rise and it's something to consider when choosing to live here."

3. From "Karen M." on BestPlaces.net: "I moved to Jacksonville from a small town and I have to say, it's been a great change for me. The city is filled with diverse cultures and there is always something new to try. The only downside is the hurricane season, but it's worth it to live here."

4. From "Mike D." on BestPlaces.net: "I've lived in Jacksonville for a few years now and I have to say, it's not my favorite place. The city is spread out and it's hard to get around without a car. The public transportation system is lacking and the traffic can be unbearable during rush hour."

Variety - 7/27/2010
Easy to live in Jacksonville. Plenty of shopping and
beach activities. Little to recommend in musical
variety - just country and rock, with a little bit
of elevator music thrown in.

Truly believe an all classical station would be a
great addition to the variety.

If you move here, you're going to regret it. - 7/11/2010
Jacksonville, unfortunately, isn't a nice place to live. I have lived here for a number of years, and I can honestly tell you that this city is dirty, crime-infested, and lacking in absolutely every amenity you'd expect to find in a relatively large city. There is no "safe" part of this city, as crime is high in all of its zip codes, even the more affluent of them. Actually, the city's homicide rate is the highest in the state, and--even more disturbingly--one of the highest in the nation. Living in a "good" neighborhood won't preclude you from being a victim of crime, even in your own home. As would be expected, the natives (i.e., Southerners) are neither friendly nor open to those who are different from themselves. The romantic notion of "southern hospitality" is a myth, at least in this part of the South. The locals tend to be socially conservative (i.e., socially backward), poorly educated, religiously fanatical rednecks, whose repulsive closed-mindedness is exceeded only by Read More

If you move here, you're going to regret it. - 6/27/2010
I moved to Jacksonville in order to attend college, but I'm sorry I did. Jacksonville is a crime-infested, poverty-stricken, narrow-minded city, full to the brim with right-wing Christian zealots. I've lived in several other cities, none of which possess Jacksonville's alarmingly high crime rate. For the most part, people here are neither educated nor cultured, and are not going to accept you unless you are one of them (i.e., southern, socially conservative, and fanatically religious). God forbid you're a northerner, as you will then be on the receiving end of myriad mean-spirited remarks. Let me also say that cultural diversity is lacking here, as everyone seems to be southern, Christian and Anglo-Saxon in heritage. When I first moved here, I didn't realize how narrow-minded and ignorant the vast majority of the city's residents are. I plan on moving away as soon as I Read More

Moving - 5/1/2010
It is pretty on the outside with rivers, beaches and shopping areas, and it is green. However,Don't move here for a job. They will let you go in a few months. They did it to me and many others. Living - 4/30/2010
The problem with JX is that you may be offered a job and after you have moved there they will kick you to the curb for no reason. It happened to me and others. On the outside it is pretty;lots of water and shopping districs, but if you are not a Gator or a Bulldog they don't want you in their city! And they are not shy to let you know.So don't move there unless you have a solid contract and an escape Read More

Crime in jax, fla. & also about street lights to be - 4/25/2010
The crime is so bad that black people killing each other & white people killing babies and drugs in the area. I was walking down the sidewalk after leaving the family dollar on atl. blvd. What I saw was a needle by the curb. There is drugs going out here in Silversmith creek apts on 7211 crane ave. If the city is worried about the electric being used then they need to switch over to special lights that don't need wireing at all. They have those kind of lights you know. The J S O needs to beef up patrols everywhere including here at these apts on crane ave.
Note: I wonder if a person of my age could be a cop. My age now Read More
