The locals of Okeechobee are known to be very friendly and welcoming to visitors, making it a pleasant experience for all. Reviews of Okeechobee have been quite positive overall with many people praising the area's natural beauty and abundance of activities that make it an ideal spot for a memorable vacation.

Small town living - 10/15/2009
I have lived in Okeechobee since 1985. It is a good place to raise kids due to lower crime rates, however, children-related activities are few and far between, unless you enroll them in school sponsored activities. The cost of living is VERY high if you consider the lack of amenities offered in this community. The closest shopping mall is 50 miles away (in either direction)and you can count on commuting 50 miles or so to another town for employment, (unless you are a resistered nurse or a working cowboy). It's a GREAT town if: you are retired (with unlimited funds) or independently wealthy. The county commissioners have had several opportunities to allow growth, but it is ALWAYS voted down. The unemployment rate is actually around 15%. We are desperately trying to relocate, but there is 1 house for every 15 that are empty or for Read More
