Do your homework or just avoid - 4/8/2021
I lived there for 25 years and it used to be awesome but it has gone downhill a LOT the past 10 years and a lot of people are leaving for that reason or would if they could. Most of The city government is inept and under qualified. They selectively enforce codes to the detriment of certain residents and neighborhoods. It may look like a great place but if you’re the one whose neighbor ruins your entire street’s property values with numerous code violations, or makes violent threats against you, don’t bother calling anyone at the city, especially the mayor. They will actually resist your complaints to the point of absurdity and treat you as if you’re the problem and some will even say so. Giant party noise at 4am? The police will actually suggest that you sleep on the other side of your own house if the noise is a problem. If you move here, make sure you have some funds set aside for an attorney because the city will “lose” official records and claim you never reported anything. Look Read More

Great place to live - 11/21/2010
I have lived near Plantaiton for over 15 years and lived in it for about 4. This is truely a grat place to live. There are great little neighbohoods that are great to bicycle in and even a free city bus that gets me from home right outside my apartment complex to work just in front of my office! I know it can't be the case for everyone but this town is nice and clean. It might not be the cheapest place but it is well worth all the expense!  Read More

Plantation, the best and worst of places to live - 11/15/2009
Climate and vegetation make this a beautiful city. However, overconstruction and uncontrolled credit have made foreclosures rampant, which is a sad fact. This city has many parks and community centers, but employment is getting harder and harder to Read More

Transportation - 9/18/2009
You can't live in Plantation comfortably without a car. There are buses but depending on where you want to go, it could take you the better part of a day to get there. As for car travel, the traffic is very heavy. The south border of Plantation is I-595, which connects to I-95 to the east and I-75 to the west. This is an advantage over many of the other municipalities in south Read More

Plantation is a city just west of Ft. Lauderdale. Mass transit does not work here because not enough people use it. Waiting for buses in 90 degree heat and storms makes it unpleasant. Only the desperate use the buses. There is a train that runs north to west but it is in the far east. The western communities have only busses. Plantation is trying to encourage bus use in their business district by providing free rides on their "tram" (small cute bus made to look like a streetcar) but I've never seen more than one or two people on board. Everything is spread out here in south Florida and it would be difficult to live without a car. Traffic also is a major Read More

Plantation's Great - 5/28/2009
I've lived in South Florida my whole life and Plantation is by far the best city I've resided in. It's close to everything you can possibly want or need. Only 15 minutes from the beach, close enough to enjoy, but not so close that you have to evacuate for a Hurricane warning. Minutes from the Sawgrass Mall, Bank Atlantic Center, Dolphins/Marlins Stadium (currently be named Landshark Stadium). Easy access to major highways to shoot down to South Beach and Key West, or northbound up to Orlando and the theme parks, or westbound over to Naples. The weather is gorgeous and neighbors are Read More

All the cities in south Florida run together so it's hard to know what city you are in from West Palm Beach to South Miami. Plantation is OK. It's just west of Ft. Lauderdale. Crime isn't too bad. It's one of the better communities.

All of south Florida is sprawling and filled with strip shopping malls. Public transportation is pathetic because no one supports it and only the poor use it. The elementary schools in Plantation are OK but if you can afford to, you send your children to private schools. Florida has no income tax, therefore public services must be paid for by the property taxes and they are high. Insurance is also high because of the hurricanes. And the hurricanes are a big reason to not live here. Living for weeks without electicity is no fun. Truthfully, the ONLY good thing going for south Florida is the winter weather. Everything else sucks. Even if you like the ocean and the beach, property near the coast is sky high (one bedroom condos over half a Read More
