Beautiful but little diversity. - 7/26/2006
Vero Beach is a beauty...the beaches, the indian river, the tropical foliage and a climate that is delightful.

Summers here are my favorite time. The tourists are gone and the beaches are empty...I mean empty! Although during the winter you can walk your dog on the beach often without encountering anyone.

My big complaint....it is very vanilla with little to Read More

Great place for families and retirees - 5/15/2006
I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. Vero is not for young, active singles. It's clean, safe, community oreiented, and it great for a family or older individuals. The real estate is truly expensive. There is no club scene, no educational scene that i can remember (they have off-campus locations for a community college), and no large events. There is decent shopping and it is centrally located to bigger cities. Except for an occassional hurricane, you can't beat the weather. And the beach is no further that 15minutes away. I wouldnt mind retiring Read More

Home of the newly wed and the nearly dead... - 5/15/2006
I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. If you have a family, are looking to retire, or just want a gorgeous home by the beach, Vero is the place for you. It is safe, clean, quiet, and centrally located to many bigger cities. You can't beat the weather (besides an occassional hurricane). There is no club scene, everything closes early, not a lot of events...its just not a place for single young people looking for a good time. However, there is immense opportunity for growth and business. the other commentor was right though, most people who live there want it to stay small and quiet. The real estate is truly expensive. Its a beautiful, safe, clean, community-oriented city. Not great for twenty-ish, thirty-ish Read More

I am from Vero Beach and lived there until I went to college. (I am shocked they actually have Vero Beach and Vero Beach South as if there is a distinction). Vero Beach vs. Las Vegas - 4/24/2006
I left Vero Beach, a.k.a., "Zero Beach" 9 months past. All of the posted comments are true in large part both pro and con. I actually moved to Henderson outside of Vagas. After 8 years of the peace found in Vero, Vegas is a shooting gallery. It is the most violent area I have every lived in. From flaming fatal car crashes on a multiple daily basis to an incredible amount of down and dirty crime by the minute, it brings new meaning to the phrase "wild West". Most of the above does not make national news, but 1 1/2 hours of daily evening news will give new insight to the uneducated. I tell all visiting friends- "Do not go to the Strip". You are placing yourself in harm's way to do so. Anne will fondly remember Zero Beach should she move to the "Valley". The home builders can't sell refrigerators, washers, or dryers as part of the new home package, because they are stolen as fast are they get installed. Plus the big surprise- there is not much to do, unless you consider Read More
