A Great Place to Live - 5/17/2007
Albany is a great place to live. The city is just the right size (165,000 metro population) to have most of the things that larger places have, but without the drawbacks of larger cities, such as traffic congestion. The streets are wide and well-planned with many alternate routes to any local destination, thereby reducing traffic slowdowns to practically nothing. The medical facilities are superb, with one large regional medical center and one smaller one. The Albany Mall has four large anchor department stores and scores of other national stores that draw customers from a 90 mile radius. Cultural facilities are better than most places, with a planetarium, an acquarium, a large screen theater that shows documentary type pictures, a 10,000 seat civic center, an art museum, an AZA accredited zoo (one of only two in Georgia), a Civil Rights Museum, a river walk, an active theater group and the only completely professional symphony orchestra in South Georgia. People here have the money. There is a big medical community here and we also have Proctor and Gambil. If you relocate, go to Northwest Albany or Lee Read More

Truly the armpit of America. - 9/16/2006
Albany is a sad, sad place. If you enjoy extreme racial tension, rednecks, big trucks with Confederate flags, and your favorite place to eat is Outback, then Albany is your dream city. As a special bonus, you get crappy schools, swarms of gnats, George Bush-loving radical right-ers, and lots of lovely closed businesses with empty buildings for lease. I lived in Albany from 1983 until 1991 and then continued to visit my family there until they moved (thank God!) in 2004. I wish I had something positive to say, but I just don't. Don't move to "Smallbany". If you live there now, get out while you still Read More

reading about the city i live in...... - 5/17/2006
whoever wrote this, i would like to meet them...it sounds like they understand where i'm coming from. i'm a college student that wants to make it in their field, and for me to do that, i have to leave this city because, outside from college, there are no more resources here. in terms of culture, there's no diversity here......they try so hard (bless their little hearts), but to no avail, doesn't work for them. the only way you can really expose yourself without leaving this city is through the internet. no big events happen here, except for homecomming for the college i attend and their arena football team they have Read More
