Feels like a developing nation - 8/24/2012
It is the least progressive place I have ever lived; it has the most amount of churches per capita, yet the 8th highest crime per capita in the nation. Many gangs, ghettos, low graduation rates, high teen pregnancy rates, the entitlement attitude, section 8 infiltrating gated communities, ambivalent attitudes towards pets, progress, it is like living in an impoverished time warp! They will never bring fortune 500's here, the only plus is the cheap cost of living, but the resale value of homes has greatly diminished, graduation rate from public high school is 45% and illiteracy is 33%. I feel like I am serving in the Peace Corps, except most developing nations have better work

Macon...what it once was and what it is now.. - 11/26/2009
I have lived in Macon almost all of my life; by almost I mean that I lived in Warner Robins for about a year and a half almost 17 yrs ago.
I remember as a child living near in the Bloomfield area; I grew up on Woodcrest Rd., it was a very nice neighborhood, all of Bloomfield was nice then. My parents had friends who had bought homes in Village Green and back in the neighborhoods behind it. What happened to macon? Its dangerous on every corner or side of town, the schools we went to as children aren't even safe enough for our kids to go to now. How come Warner Robins hasnt let the ghetto take over their city, but Macon has given in to the ghetto and the trash that comes out of it? Maybe we should set standards here, make these idiots keep their pants up, turn their car stereos down, clean up their neighborhoods, get off welfare, teach them how to use proper english, and learn how to act civil when out in public. East Macon is completely ruined, Fort Hill is supposed

Nice Relaxing Little City - 12/3/2007
Macon is a really nice place to live. When you enter a grocery store, people will greet you and say hello. As you know, this is hard to find now days. I would recommend living in Macon to anyone. The healthcare is great as well as the cost of living. There are plenty of restaurants. South Macon (Rutland/South Bibb) offers a nice country setting not far from the

city political structure - 8/20/2007
there are between 12 and 15 city commissioners in macon as a consequence getting anything accomplished in this very parochial theater is a major feat. The city's downtown, a place where a true revival of macon could occur, has not found the necessary leadership to pull it up to the level that it could become, that of a vibrant downtown with a resident population to support it. The state of georgia has attempted to right size the city's goverment structure but has not succeded to date. Macon's outer communites especially those in the northen areas thrive and much of the new development is occuring

Small Town Life, but Close to Everything - 5/17/2007
After moving to Macon 28 years ago, moving to Atlanta for several years and then back to Macon again, I have gained a renewed appreciation for the "small town" appeal that Macon offers. There are no hour-long commutes to work in heavy traffic, no outrageously priced real estate markets, no driving all the way across Atlanta to reach your favorite stores or restaurants. Even though Macon has grown tremendously in the last ten years and offers a variety of fine restaurants, entertainment, shopping, festivals, museums, colleges, universities and Southern heritage points of interest, the city has been able to maintain its small Southern-town charm and pace of life.
Macon is centrally located in the state and close to everything.
Want to spend time at the beach? Savannah, Jeckyl Island, and the Atlantic coast are only about four hours away. Florida and Disneyworld; about six hours away. The North Georgia mountains and Octoberfest? Four hours North. The Atlanta

In my 9 years of living here I have discovered how small minded the people are here. There are so many conservative backwoods country bumpkins in this town. There seems to be alot of ignorance here with no ambition to open their minds and learn something about the changing world! If you are liberal at all, dont move

Macon is dying - 9/24/2006
This city has nothing - well, it has abundant crime, horrendous public schools, tremendous poverty and political corruption. If you find three Wal-Marts to be indicative of culture, then you might like this cesspool. The weather is nice, though, when it's not too hot or threateningly tornadic. But there is a church on every street corner and a ton of preachers, people go there on Sundays before they hit the Waffle House and the Super Wal-Mart. Woo hoo. Stay far away from this place, far away. Those of us here are either stuck or trying to get
