To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in Stone Mountain, let's take a look at some user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

Stephenson Middle School - 11/13/2012
Stephenson Middle School is a good school. What we put out as parents is what we get back. My children have not had any problems with their teachers, but they come home and tell me of how disruptive and disrespectful some children can become, and they teachers become very frustrated.
This is our community school and we need to support it. I have been able to meet with my son's teachers after school by simply walking into school. Some school do not even allow Read More

As a town so close to Atlanta, Stone Mountain is pretty nice. The people are friendly and 9 out of 10 work hard to raise their kids right and to set a good example. It is that 1 out of 10 that you want to beware of so that is pretty good I think when it comes to people in general. The weather is very, very nice. Humidity can be high on a few summer days but once you get acclimated it isn't that big of a deal. There are tons of trees with plenty of deep, cool shade to chill out under. In the night you still see fireflys and yes, it is safe to walk at night throughout the area. Marta is the public transportation and it is very reliable and the buses are kept clean, on-time and routes go anywhere you can think of. Dekalb county has great trash pickup service in general but Stone Mountain is 100% great about taking calls to pickup anything. They WANT to keep the area clean. The teachers at the schools love the kids and inspire them to learn all that they can. I'm not saying you can leave Read More

A Day in the life of Stone Mountain - 12/3/2008
My Husband and I have owned our home in Stone Mountain for 2 years now. Prior to purchasing this home we lived in two apartment comple in Stone Mountain. It's a beautiful place but I've found that like most Median income neighborhoods in the Atlanta area a few minutes driving in any direction can make a drastic difference in your surroundings.

There's the quaint village of Stone Mountain which is surrounded by old Colonial homes that have been transformed into townhouses and very well kept southern style homes with wrap around porches.

After less than 5 minutes in a car you are at Memorial Drive.Home to the major expressways, the prison and many small strip malls that cater to a seedier type of characters.

Travel a few more minutes Southbound and you will find yourself at the intersection of South Hairston and Redan Road which is full of businesses catering towards families. You will always find parents and their children zipping here and there. Read More
