It's a no from me.... - 7/7/2021
The people here are the poster children of "southern hospitality". Meaning they are snooty, passive aggressive, racist, judgemental, fake, people I've ever there is literally nothing to do here but go to bars where police harass you, or go to church. The bar scene is a bunch of wannabe big man frat boys that flaunt mommy and daddy's money like they earned it along with the little sorority skanks that once held the title of the most STDs per Capita for colleges across the country. It offers no opportunity to up and coming businesses. The big businesses run this town and are handed down from generation to generation. It's the good ole boy system here. If you don't know the big wigs here and or don't come from money you might as well keep it moving. Especially if you're trying to start up your own business. With 6 different police agencies they're always harassing people. I have lived here for about miserable 15 years. My momma told me,"when I die...get out of this hell hole. It has Read More

Don’t move to Valdosta - 1/20/2020
Finding a job in Valdosta is extremely hard unless you know someone! Trying to get some kind of medical insurance if your not working is even worse! There is no transportation! The community downs people instead of helping them! Nothing to do except watch the college kids prance around like they own the city! The mall sucks! You can go to wild adventures but if you live here at some point you’ll get tired of it! Read More

A great town to live in - 12/10/2014
I'm 19 and I've lived here for practically my entire life. I'm mixed Hispanic (Panamanian) and black.

A lot of these comments posted about Valdosta being a "racist" town are so wrong. Since being in this town I've never experienced or seen any racism in this town toward African-Americans. The town is pretty diverse for being a small town. And everyone is very friendly and open to meeting new people.

Valdosta is a small and quiet town. We have a few events throughout the year mainly for the different holidays but not many. Most people go to the movies or hang out with friends at house parties for fun, since there isn't much of a club scene. The mall is small but has clothing stores that cater to every style. And there's many great restaurants throughout the town.

The Lowndes County school system is great (however the City School System is below average). The teachers are really caring and great at teaching and helping us to learn as much as Read More

Something is wrong..... - 8/23/2014
I am an educated African American woman with 10 years of experience in the judicial field and I am also an attorney. I have applied for jobs that I am 100% certain that I qualified for. For some reason I have not gotten so much as an interview in the two years that I have lived in this city. I have been told that my name is "ethnic" and that it can be used to screen me out of selection. It has also been suggested that I use my middle name, which is a "mainstream" name. I have been told these things by individuals who were Caucasian and individuals who were African American. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Read More
