Quality of Education depends on your perspective. - 7/23/2011
The public education in Paauilo (and in the state as a whole) leaves a lot to be desired when compared to a more typical "mainland" experience. My wife and I both work in the education sector and are constantly disheartened by the lack of commitment to education by the state, the parents, and the culture as a whole. Education is viewed as free day care over here to the point where families will take their kids out of school for the day to go to the mall or go fishing. Many of the public school teachers over here come off as being very unmotivated, unwilling to change, and disheartened in their career choice (which is understandable given the constant barrage of furloughs and pay cuts they receive. The strongest statement that I can make about the public school situation over here is that my wife and I are determined to move back to the mainland before our new baby girl comes of school age.
