Hawaii is great but not Waikiki is not for living - 4/22/2013
Iv been living in Waikiki area for the past few months and living cost here is driving me crazy. Especially, food.
I don't understand why they have this special Waikiki price in the fast food places like in Mcdonals and burger king. I mean who the hell wants to pay $9 for a whopper buger meal? Are you kidding me? And so as big Mac meal!? Why do I have to pay $10 for the supposed to taste same in everywhere burger? And because they have such a beautiful tropical weather, I was expecting to eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies for low price. No. They cost much more than main land of the states. Like almost double.
I love Hawaii, but not Waikiki. It is not a place for living. Just bunch of tourists spending for holiday. Go other places in Hawaii!

The people and climate are wonderful! - 1/3/2013
The thing I love most about Honolulu is the people. Honolulu is very ethnically diverse, with Asians (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, , Philippino, Vietnamese and Thai) being predominant, then caucasians, and those of Hawaiian blood. There is a smattering of everything else. The people are, in general, quite friendly and polite. They keep the aloha spirit in mind and you'll find that people hesitate to honk in traffic and will wave you in when you need to change lanes. And that's in spite of traffic being congested! Racism isn't nonexistant, but I think there's less of it here, and mixed marriages are common and accepted.
The crime rate is fairly low, especially the murder rate. There are definitely dangerous areas, but it's pretty safe compared to other cities.
Because of the ethnic diversity, there's lots of good food here; all kinds of restaurants. Great farmers markets (OMG, Ho Farms tomatoes! Japanese cucumbers! Papayas! Yum)

Climate of Honolulu, Oahu - 10/7/2012
It's not just a cliche'! This truly is paradise. I've lived here for 26 years and have rarely been disappointed about anything concerning the weather. Well, maybe Hurricane Iniki in 1992!
Daytime winter temps range in the 70's and occasionally low 80's. Nighttime winter temps in Honolulu range in the 60's, but can be chillier in central Oahu and places closer to the mountains. It rains more in the winter, but that's what keeps everything so lush and beautiful. Waikiki gets the least amount of rain year round, while the neighborhood of Manoa (a lovely older community), with it's proximity to the Koolau mountain range, gets the most.
The two hottest months of the year are August and September, with daytime temps in the mid to high 80's, and nights in the 70's. It's rare to have many days in the 90's. Our beloved trade winds keep the temperatures very comfortable in the summer and also keep the air clean and fresh year
