Cortland, Illinois is a small village located in DeKalb County with a population of just over 4,000 people. It is known for its rural charm, friendly community, and affordable housing. According to BestPlaces.net, the overall livability score for Cortland is 86, which is considered "very livable." To gain a better understanding of what it's like to live in Cortland, I have included some user reviews from BestPlaces.net, where residents share their personal experiences and opinions about the village.

1. "Cortland is a great place to live for families. The schools are excellent, and the community is very safe and welcoming. There are plenty of parks and outdoor activities for kids to enjoy. The only downside is that there isn't much to do for entertainment, so we often have to drive to a nearby town for that." - Rachel L.

2. "I have lived in Cortland for over 20 years, and I have seen it grow and change. It's still a quiet and peaceful place to live, but now we have more restaurants and stores, which is great. The only issue is the traffic can get pretty bad during rush hour, especially on our main road, Somonauk Street." - Mark R.

3. "I love the small-town feel of Cortland. It's a tight-knit community where everyone knows each other. The village events, like the annual festival, are always fun and bring the community together. However, the downside is that there aren't many job opportunities, and you have to commute to nearby cities for work." - Sarah M.

4. "Cortland is a beautiful place to live, with its tree-lined streets and well-maintained parks. The cost of living is affordable, and the people are friendly. The only thing I wish we had is a better public transportation system. It's challenging to get around without a car." - David K.

Overall, the residents of Cortland seem to enjoy living in the village for its family-friendly environment, safety, and affordability. However, there are some common concerns, such as the lack of entertainment options and job opportunities, as well as traffic congestion and inadequate public transportation. Nevertheless, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net are positive, and many recommend Cortland as a great place to call home.

Where is Cortland? - 7/13/2007
Cortland is a small town that most people "drive through" on their way to Sycamore or DeKalb. However, that will most likely change within the next 5 years.

The "downtown" area has re-zoned many of the residential areas into commercial, bringing a projected 62% job increase. As a new resident myself, this is great news because I typically have to travel to other cities for...well...everything.

More established residents are upset with the new zoning. This is a small town, and small town residents often feel threatened by the kind of rapid growth that this town is currently experiencing.

Even if all of the land in Cortland is developed it will still be a "small town". So if you're looking to move out to this area do it now while prices are still reasonable.  Read More
