Love shopping in Geneseo! - 8/9/2015
Geneseo has some great places to shop and eat. My favorite store is Crabapple Cove followed by Curious Cargo, C&S Antique Mall and the Art League. I especially love Curious Cargo's Halloween Dungeon in the fall. We have to visit Geneseo every season as the stores all change so much. Geneseo has some great places to eat too! Geneseo looks like a great place to live. Not too big and not too Read More

I Love Geneseo - 9/27/2011
I have spent a majority of my life in Geneseo. I am there from four days a week to every single day. I stay with my brother, my sister, and hang at the in-laws. I do not have a single problem with the town. It is a good size and comforting. You do not have to go far to get anything you need, or anywhere you want to go. The QC is just 20 minutes away or less. It is a nice size, has good schooling, and friendly people. My family originally lived there, but we moved just 10 minutes away. I am still there all the time and accepted by many. Read More

People here are quite rude - 8/4/2009
Having lived in larger cities all my life, I really wanted to experience a small-town feel and quaint surroundings of a small community. Although I'd heard that Geneseo "natives" won't accept you if even your ancestors aren't from there, my new husband and I bought a home there anyway. The home was lovely- an old Victorian built in 1856. In fact, the town itself is very lovely. We'd walk downtown to the movie theater, enjoy the Christmastime Victorian walk, etc. The schools are top notch also. But, because we didn't have children, we were literally "outcasts". No one spoke to us-even our neighbors. Once, we drove to Chicago to purchase a Chevy Avalanche. When it needed warranty work on the power windows, the local Chevy dealer wouldn't even let us make an appointment. He told us that since we bought it in Chicago, we could go back there for repairs too. After living there for several years, I knew what it must feel like to be treated like a minority. Everyone looks and Read More

Do not tell anybody about this! - 11/5/2008
I have now lived in Geneseo for over 20 years. It is just a great place to live! Geneseo has a positive reputation for it's schools, high school football and music. It has been over 25 years since Geneseo has won an Illinois State High School Football Championship, but they have four of those trophies in their trophy case. The High School has also recently won it's sixth State Music Championship. The high school is fed these outstanding musicians by parents and booster clubs that encourage both vocal and instrumental music. Geneseo developed a youth football program 45 years ago for 5th, 6th and 7th graders that continues today. When my son played about 15 years ago, the organization was so well funded he only had to pay $1.00 per year for his own mouth-piece!
What makes Geneseo so different is the "can do" attitude of the residents. When people are asked to volunteer to coach a little league soccer, baseball or football team, people actually step up and say Read More

Wonderful Town - 10/22/2008
After joining the military, leaving Geneseo, and travelling all over the U.S. I can truly say that Geneseo is truly a Wonderful Town and anybody who has lived there or currently does should feel very lucky. The hospitality is great, the climate is comfortable, the crime rate is (what crime?) & the school system is terrific. The Victorian walks around Christmas time, the Ice Cream Socials at the park, and of course watching the Green Machine football games on Friday nights in the fall. It's just a very well rounded little country Read More
