The good, the bad, and the ugly. - 8/14/2014
Have lived here for five years and here are my observations (from both first-hand and anecdotal experiences):

Pros-lovely town, homes and yards well-kept, downtown area upscale and attractive, good schools, low crime, efficient mass transit, proximity to first-class cultural opportunities.
Cons-homes and property taxes very high, "keeping up with the Joneses" prevalent here, cliquish residents, some measure of fiscal and political irresponsibility (welcome to Illinois).
In short, a mixed bag. I have lived in many places and know that that has been the case everywhere I've lived. What you get out of your life depends on what your priorities Read More

Hinsdale is a pretty Chicago suburb. It is an affluent community blessed with top rated schools. I'm sure there are lots of very nice people living there, yet the very vocal, very demanding and at times very rude people over-shadow the very polite and decent people. This minority (I hope) flex their money as power and expect very special treatment. They are very nouveau riche. I work in Hinsdale, and I am pretty much treated like "the help". The ladies are dressed to the nines, and the children are spoiled. They go on exotic vacations to do charity, yet fail to see the hypocrisy in their actions. Wish they were more genteel in their dealings with the common people. Mental note to myself: If I should ever win the lotto, never move to this town because the children will be exposed to bad behavior of adults. This town is a character buster. Read More

Love everything but the weather! - 1/16/2007
Hinsdale is a western suburb (approximately 25 minutes drive) of Chicago. It is a beautiful upscale village (rather high taxes, I'm afraid), with lots of neighborhood parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields, classy downtown with many franchise stores (i.e. Starbucks, Gap) as well as trendy boutiques. Population is approximately 18,000, excellent schools, myriad colleges and universities in nearby suburbs and Chicago, easy access to many expressways, in-town train station with great service to Chicago, two major airports within 25 minute drive. There are "a million" things to do in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs -- everything from marvelous restaurants of all kinds, sports arenas, music venues for all types of music from rock to jazz to blues to symphony to opera . . . , many theatres, museums, cultural centers, etc. etc. So why would anyone want to leave? My only complaint is the weather! Contrary to popular belief, the winters are not all that harsh anymore. We seem to Read More
