LZ's questionable revitalization - 12/19/2007
LZ downtown revitalization is at a standstill...with townhomes built and not selling..plus our gateway building may never be built due to disagreements on funding by the developer and Village of LZ. This info comes from the Village newsletter. So, LZ continues to be in debt and the TIF district may have problems paying what it owes to the schools. No TIF money has come as yet to the library. The one good thing to come out of LZ's revitalization in the Route 22 Bypass. The review says "when the project is completed" I question "if" this project will ever be completed is a better choice of words. With unsold townhomes and empty vacant lots where houses and businesses used to stand...before the Village of LZ tore them down in the name of Read More

Retro to the future - 10/22/2007
Lake Zurich is in the midst of a retro revitalization. They have moved the major highway out from downtown and are building condos, shops and apartments.

This by itself is being done all over the northwest Chicago suburban area. The difference is that lake Zurich is working toward a revitalized downtown which will be walker friendly. Within 2 miles of the heart of Lake Zurich you have 5 major groceries, greater than a dozen restaurants, 2 hardware stores, a lumber yard and several parks.

When the project is completed Lake Zurich will have a very high quality of Read More

Mean housing data is wrong - 7/16/2007
Your data for mean housing cost for Lake Zurich is wrong - way too high. There is an adjacent suburb called Hawthorne Woods that uses the same zip code. Hawthorne Woods is a large area of formerly rural farm land that has been rapidly developed over the past 10-15 years with numerous home builders - costing $750,000 - $2.5 million. This is skewing your data for Lake Zurich which is a nice family community with affordable housing. My estmate for Lake Zurich is a mean housing cost of Read More

Bus. Week article - Best Affordable Burbs in Midwe - 5/24/2007
This is from the Business Week article Best Affordable Suburbs in the Midwest. My point is to be careful what you read. A 40 minute drive to the city? Maybe at 3:00 in the morning. Rural scenery? Drive down Rand Road and tell me that's "Rural". What non-sense!

You could do far worse than Lake Zurich, Ill., a village of about 19,000 residents roughly a 40-minute drive northwest from the Windy City. "It's a great place to raise a family," says Sadie Winter, a realtor with Century 21 Premier Properties in neighboring Glenview, Ill. "It has a small-town feel."

The almost rural scenery, complete with lakefront beaches and parks, makes Lake Zurich a kind of oasis in an area that also houses the headquarters of such major companies as Boeing, Motorola, McDonald's, and Sears. Settled in the 1830s and incorporated in 1896, it remained a farming community before developing into a popular summer resort in the late 1920s. Housing development began in the Read More
