What BestPlaces Users Say about Greenwood

Greenwood, Indiana is a suburban city located just south of Indianapolis. It boasts a low cost of living, abundant amenities, and a strong sense of community. With a population of over 58,000, Greenwood offers residents the best of both worlds - a small town feel with easy access to big city amenities. However, with any city comes varying opinions on what it's like to live there. Here are some excerpts from real user reviews on BestPlaces.net to give you a better idea of what it's like to call Greenwood home.

- "I've lived in Greenwood for over 20 years and it's a wonderful place to raise a family. The schools are top-notch, the crime rate is low, and there are plenty of job opportunities. Plus, the cost of living is very reasonable compared to other cities in Indiana. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else." - Jessica R.

- "I moved to Greenwood from Chicago and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The people are friendly, the housing is affordable, and there's always something to do. I love being able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city without sacrificing any conveniences. It's the best of both worlds." - Mike S.

- "One of the things I appreciate most about Greenwood is the strong sense of community. There are so many local events and festivals that bring people together. It really feels like a small town, even though it's close to a big city. I also love the parks and trails for outdoor recreation." - Karen D.

- "I've lived in Greenwood my whole life and while it's definitely grown and changed over the years, it still has that hometown charm. However, traffic has become a problem with all the new development. It can take twice as long to get to work during rush hour now. That's my only complaint though." - John M.

Don’t take this Gem for granted! - 3/22/2019
I have lived in Greenwood 23 of my 35 years. Both as a child and as an adult with children. Recently my husband & I relocated to York, PA.... a city of a similar size. The property taxes there are 2-5x higher than the property taxes in Indiana. For a $300,000 house in Greenwood you’re looking at about $3k a year, in York... it could be as high as $11,000/yr. but there is no way you are looking at less than $7000/yr.
I asked “Why are the taxes so much higher in York?” They claim the schools and the roads. The schools are mediocre compared to what we have in Center Grove, Greenwood, or Whiteland. The schools are great, houses are affordable... if you don’t believe me... look at Zillow in other cities then get a grip on reality), the crime is low, it has tons of activities for children and families. The community center and parks department are FANTASTIC. The city is clean, has good shopping, and is easy to navigate. The proximity to Indianapolis makes it great to find a good job Read More

Working hard to ESCAPE is redneck town - 3/21/2018
Greenwood has a mall, a bunch of fast food joints and tons of right-wing, Trump loving 'necks' to fill them. I often have to remind myself that this is technically the north, but with all the rebel flags and Republicans running unopposed in elections you'd never know it. The big event would probably be the annual county fair in nearby Franklin, and of course the sold out Demolition Derby. Seriously, there is a lot of bitching and moaning about things needing to get better here, yet these rubes keep electing carbon copy Republicans - Gee, wonder why things never get any better. I saw a sticker on the back of a car (I KID YOU NOT) it was a caricature of Trump peeing on the word "Democrats" - yeah, that's the mentality here. The roads are truly awful here and the drivers not much better. Road signs and traffic lights? Those are "suggestions" here, and traffic on 135 at rush hour is soul crushing for a podunk town. Seriously, in a big metro area you sort of accept it because of the large Read More

4 Beautiful distinct seasons - 1/17/2017
Nice long Spring and Fall seasons. Beautiful fall colors. Summers can be rather hot and humid, but never miserable like those I have experienced in Texas and Louisiana. Winters are usually quite cold, but some winters can be mild with little snow.  Read More

Great place to raise a family but can be boring an - 5/18/2007
Greenwood is a small city with a lot of amenities. The county politics is mostly republican which is inline with beliefs yet it can be corrupt at times. It seems somebody is elected and then caught giving a buddy or family member a "ghost" job. Other than that it has some real appeal. Low cost of home ownership, taxes are low and schools are great. The traffic is getting worse. Just like everybody else I Read More
