Been there, done that... - 2/8/2017
I've been reading the reviews about Seymour.
I was born in Seymour, spent half my child years there as well as other places about the country. I have either lived or visited in many other cities or towns all over the continental US ( except Montana, N Dakota and Minnesota). I have been to Seymour on several occasions, visiting extended family.
Things have changed a lot since my childhood, but from my experience, Seymour is no better nor worse than any other place in the country. There are problems with drugs, illegals, police corruption etc; just like all the other places in the country.
And it still is a fairly safe place with job opportunities.
Visit first. If you don't like what you find, you can always leave.
But if you stay, maybe you can help make things even better...

Mean-spirited people - 9/13/2013
I have lived here for ten years and agree that Seymour, Indiana is a sophomoric community where outsiders are not welcome and the parents are worse bullies than the children. I have joined churches and coached kid teams and donated time and money and it matters not. The people at Immanuel church are especially ugly even when you are volunteering. The children are a reflection of the parents. Even teachers are cruel if you aren't from here. The church people turn a ridiculously blind eye to egregiously bullying at school and Sunday school in the name of the almighty dollar. The pedophiles and other sex offenders are abundant and enjoy suspended sentences compliments of the judges too. I regret coming here and ruining my children's childhoods. We do our best to stay positive and deal with the culture of juvenile adults and bullies we encounter every day in school, sports and Sunday school all the while looking forward to the day we can leave and try to forget how foolish we have felt

Beautiful but corrupt - 2/23/2013
the town is a beautiful place gorgeous in the fall summers are hot and lazy. not much of a spring anymore ...winters are very cold ice sleet rarely snows anymore either.
as far as living there , the police in that small town are as corrupt as they come.half are on drugs like steroids and the other half make up their own laws. ive seen them kick doors in for no reason other than they thought someone was inside they wanted to talk to. not arrest but talk to. ive heard from a cop themselves that they cover for drug dealers. ive been at parties when younger were everyone was 18 or 19 and saw the police in uniform come in with 2 kegs of beer and everyone had to pay them 20 bucks a piece. this is the tip of the iceberg where the corruption starts i would not recommend this town to anyone. better off goiong to columbus, in or

Wonderfull town - 3/9/2011
This is coming from someone who has lived his entire life in this town I've seen the ups and downs of the community and the problems we have faced. this down looks rough from the outside but when u really get settled in and people get to know you we are not that bad. yes the children and teens are well a little out of control if you ask me. But this place has more to offer then what most see from The outside. This place is wonderful for people who want a small town to live in. my entire family lives in this town, most of use don't want to move away i for sure do not. a majority of the people i know are nice caring people who would most likely help you out in a bad event. I dont really know the job outlook of this town but from my personal experience. it is alittle hard to get one most of the people living her have jobs in the surrounding towns or citys or have there own jobs

Great Town - 7/15/2009
This is a small town with great values. There are many events throughout the year that most people in the community come out for. There are great schools with very supportive teachers. People here are very friendly and helpfull. When you drive by most people wave and smile. The crime rate is low, contrary to what this site says. The police are helpfull and unobtrusive. Due to the economy the unemployment rate is high. however there are many job oppertunities and when the economy recovers we will be lower than average like before. the only thing that this town is lacking is shopping however, you are only about 25 min from a major outlet mall. Very small town. Move here only if you are a white/red neck christian. This place has nothing to offer. The town is small, no good restaurants except Applebees and Max and Erma. People are unkept, rude and unfriendly. Even though Indy and Louisville KY are nearby....one hours drive everyday becomes too much. Southern Indiana - 3/7/2009
I moved to Seymour from Kansas almost 11 years ago. I have hated every single day of it. I have been trying to relocate back west for many years. Seymour is small and very clickish. If you move here as an outsider, you will probably remain an outsider. Most people here (I have found) are so unfriendly, bad attitude and many are flat out rude. You can go into just about any business and they just look at you like you are bothering them, and they look pissed off. They do not smile, some will rudely ask "can I help you".. and others just stare at you until you tell them what you want.
You cannot drink the water out of the tap because it is very hard water and it tastes like it has been sitting in a rusted tin can, it's awful!
The weather is cold. It cools off early in the fall and doesn't warm up until late in the spring. It gets cloudy and stays cloudy for days, it may rain, or it may not rain, you never know.

While a single person or family can go bicycling, take classes at John Mellencamp's Southern Indiana Center for the Arts or through the large and beautiful new library or take college courses at the high school, or go to a golf course, swimming pool, tennis court, or ballfield here, or outside town take horses for trailrides or ATVs out for a spin, the best way to enjoy Seymour is to get involved with a group. Churches, charities, and clubs offer a wide range of activities. They also offer friendships and the chance to contribute to the community. It's the people who stay unconnected who decide there is "nothing to do" here and leave. Most of the children are involved in Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc, 4-H or some other organization. It seems to be harder for people from late teens-early 20s to find something exciting enough to do with their leisure time because Seymour is geared toward families and at that age they usually don't want to hang out with their elders. :) Seymour doesn't

We just moved (a week ago) to Seymour from West Bloomfield, MI. It is a very small town with very little recreation. However it is 20min from Columbus and about 1 hr from Indianapolis, Bloomington and Louisville KY. So there is always something to do over the weekend.
