Pikeville, Kentucky is a small city located in the Appalachian Mountains. Known for its scenic views and rich coal mining history, Pikeville has a population of around 6,900 residents. It is also home to Pikeville Medical Center, one of the largest hospitals in the state. With its charming downtown area and close-knit community, many people have chosen to make Pikeville their home. However, like any city, it has its pros and cons. Let's take a look at what residents have to say about living in Pikeville.

According to Best Places, a website that collects user reviews and data on various cities in the United States, many people have positive things to say about living in Pikeville, Kentucky. One user, Amanda, describes Pikeville as a "beautiful and friendly place to live." She also mentions the city's low crime rate and affordable cost of living. Another user, John, praises the city's recreational opportunities, stating that "the mountains offer endless opportunities for outdoor activities." On a similar note, Mark shares his love for the community events and festivals, saying that "there is always something fun and family-friendly going on in Pikeville."

However, not all reviews are glowing. Some residents have expressed concerns about the job market in Pikeville. As Stephanie puts it, "the job opportunities are limited and the pay is not great." Another user, Sarah, mentions the lack of diversity and cultural activities in the city, stating that "there is not much to do for young adults looking for a more diverse and vibrant community."

Overview on Housing ect. - 4/30/2012
I've lived in the wonderful county of Pike for the past seven years. Originally I am from Morgan County, but when I met my husband I made the move to Pikeville. Seven years ago it was easy to find housing, but over time the cost of living has increased and so has the rent. I get it really its economics but when wages have not increased its even more difficult to afford a safe place to live. We are currently living in a apartment that has 680 dollars a month for rent, that doesn't include anything but water and garbage. Now I know i know its not that bad when you look at the prices for oh lets say a flat in New York City or Los Angeles. But this is a small town in eastern Kentucky. Actually let me go back on that previous statement just a tad. My brother currently lives in Binghamton, New York. He is paying 300 dollars a month for a 1 bed room 1 bath apartment and it includes everything. A few years ago we had considered moving to Lexington, We even found a great apartment for 525 a Read More

It's allright - 9/28/2008
Not much to do in the area, there has been alot of prescription drug abuse, but not alot of major crimes as one user said, I do enjoy the area, people are friendly, the view is beautiful, and you get solitude. But if you're looking for a place with alot of action, this isn't the place, it stay pretty much quite around here, but like I said, the people are friendly, and the families are close, the school district is horriable, and there is alot of corruption in the local businesses, so it is hard to get a decent job around here, because everyone is hiring a relative or a friend. If you aren't in the mining career, don't expect a job, unless you know Read More

Small town with big problems... - 9/8/2006
I've lived here for 28 years, and overall it has been an ok place to live...But here in the last 5 to 10 years or so, prescription drug abuse has taken over..And of course following the overwhelming drug problem comes a significant increase in crime and violence. When you hear "small town" you automatically think of nice friendly people, well don't let this small town fool you, from my experience here, I'm guessing around 10% of the population do live up to the small town stereotype..I didn't realize how bad this town is until I was fortunate enough to have almost a year away from it..I'm here now because of family issues, but as soon as I can i'll be out of here...So, if quality of life is not an important issue to you, and you do enjoy drug abuse and crime, this is the place for you..If not, I urge you to stay away from Pikeville, Read More
