In recent months Slidell has seen a major transformation. The cost of housing has increased drastically, especially in areas not affected by the hurricane. There has been an influx of people, which our roads cannot handle. Traffic is horrible everywhere and at all times of the day. On a positive note, the commute time to New Orleans is actually better than it was pre-Katrina, primarily because New Orleans East in unoccupied. The job market is booming, but this is only in service-related areas. There are very few professional careers in Slidell, save for banks and hospitals, and the situation in New Orleans is still on the mend.
