What BestPlaces Users Say about Bangor
Bangor, Maine is a small city located in the northeastern United States, known for its natural beauty and historic charm. With a population of around 33,000, Bangor offers a slower pace of life compared to larger cities, making it an attractive place to live for those seeking a quieter lifestyle. However, like any city, it has its own unique pros and cons that are often reflected in user reviews. Here's what some people have to say about living in Bangor, based on their personal experiences.
"Bangor is a great place to live if you enjoy outdoor activities and a close-knit community. The local parks and trails are beautiful and well-maintained, and there are plenty of festivals and events to attend. The people here are friendly and welcoming, and there's a real sense of community. However, the cost of living can be high, especially when it comes to housing. It can also be challenging to find job opportunities in certain industries." - Sarah M.
"I've lived in Bangor my whole life and I can't imagine living anywhere else. The city has a small-town feel with all the amenities of a bigger city. We have a great food scene, with lots of locally-owned restaurants and cafes. Plus, the downtown area is picturesque and full of charm. The only downside is the harsh winters, but the beautiful fall foliage and springtime blooms make up for it." - John D.
"I moved to Bangor for work and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The cost of living is much more affordable than where I came from, and there are plenty of job opportunities in various fields. The people are friendly and the schools are good. There are also some great local businesses and restaurants that add to the city's character. The only downside for me is the lack of diversity, but overall it's a great place to raise a family." - Maria L.
"Bangor is a pretty average city in my opinion. Nothing too exciting, but nothing too terrible either. The downtown area is nice, but there isn't much to do outside of that. The traffic can be a nightmare at certain times of the day, and the weather can be unpredictable. Overall, it's a decent place to live, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a top destination." - David P.

Outdoor Magazine Will Discover Bangor! - 5/7/2007
With the beautiful Kenduskeag Stream dividing the east and west sides and the majestic Penobscot flowing by, Bangor has a beautiful city site. It is also a city of parks (it even has a city forest). Maybe most important in this category: Bangor is the gateway to the North Woods--an easy drive to Moosehead Lake, Baxter State Park (one of the largest parks in North America), and Mt. Katahdin--and to Acadia National

Crime - 9/20/2006
Drug related crime and theft have risen a lot since I was younger, but there is still very little violent crime, and there are no places that I don't feel safe walking around. I may not want to leave my car unlocked, which a lot of people here still do, but beyond that, crime is not a big worry around

Bangor, Maine - 8/20/2005
Slow to change---describes attitude of native Mainers---they pride themselves on being from the state but consider anyone not born here "away". Even if that person has lived in the state for over 20 years! Beautiful scenery as long as its not hunting season--then beware if not wearing bright orange.
Its a city that has potential but easily gets overwhelmed with any idea of change!
Very much lacking in diversity in regards to restaurants and cultural events; has an abundance of Chinese
