Alpena, MI is a small city located on the northeastern side of the state. It is known for its stunning sunsets, picturesque waterfront views, and being one of the last untouched places in the Great Lakes region. The city has a variety of activities and attractions for visitors to enjoy. Shopping districts dot the downtown area while nature preserves such as Rockport State Park give visitors an opportunity to explore some of Michigan's most beautiful terrain. There are also plenty of outdoor activities, from fishing to hunting and camping. Visitors who come to Alpena often speak highly of the city's hospitality and charm. They appreciate its unique culture and appreciate its many amenities such as access to great restaurants, cafes, galleries, shops, and more. Many people have fallen in love with this little town on Lake Huron's eastern edge making it a popular destination during summer months.

One of the best kept secrets in Michigan - 10/22/2019
One of the ten best places to visit in Michigan.

I was born and raised in Michigan but now live in Seattle. I get back to Michigan frequently because my brother lives in Grand Rapids. I love visiting the Alpena area for all of its natural beauty and some of the best fishing on Thunder Bay, Long Lake and the Thunder River. The town is quaint, clean and there seems to be pride in the community. Some good local cafes, friendly people, a bit too conservative for my taste but nice nevertheless. Alpena is a town for all ages, with plenty to do, more than one person could attend. I think the events are varied and offer something for everyone. The town is lovely, the lake is beautiful, the people are friendly, and for its size, I can't imagine more culture being offered. This town has two theaters where I've seen some great acting in numerous plays.
