Warren consoladated school district - 6/30/2008
Appears controversial toward its punishment of Afro-American students who get in trouble at school in Sterling Heights. They seem more eager to enforce the zero tolerance rule. Appear to exaggerate the offense to support expulsion. I hope that the federal government do a probe and look at each case closely to see if there is fool play involved in an effort to keep the black population down in Sterling Heights. This happened to my child but after discussions and probing I found out that I'm not alone. I would like to know how many students were expelled from the sterling Heights schools and the ethnic ratio. How many did the Sterling Heights school request the police = ethnic ratio. for elementary/middle schools= I would like the Sterling Heights figures only. I would like a review of the zero tolerance system and how these school officials are using it to destroy the life of children/families especially 5-13. Also a review of the Sterling Heights schools (thru Warren consolidated Read More

Losing it's residents - 3/29/2007
Sterling Heights among other surrounding cities are losing it's resident due to unemployment from the Big 3. Many people have gotten laid off and cannot find work. We have major traffic issues on Van Dyke road which I pretty much got down pact. from 3pm to 6:30pm - dont even bother to be on Van Dyke at 16- 18 mile rd because you will just sit in traffic forever. There are so many crazy and cranky drivers here. Impatient and rude. If your not used to attitude you will get an adjustment upon entering Michigan. But Sterling Heights residents are stuck up and thier lives revolve around work and house care. If they are not at work they are in the yard. You won't find a house with boarded up windows or junker cars in the street waiting to be towed. People pretty much mind there own business unless you get on thier bad side. The economy just sucks right now and I see no future for it improving anytime soon. Granholm is proposing tax increases and with so many unemployed and losing houses I Read More

The most exciting crime we have in Sterling Heights relates to Auto Accidents. I have lived here for 6 years and nothing has occured except for 2 years ago a cop was shot in his car in the Target parking lot.
"A Sterling Heights police officer - described by his superiors as a "baby face" father of one - was the victim of what investigators on Saturday called an execution-style slaying.
Officer Mark Anthony Sawyers was shot as he compiled a traffic accident report on a computer in his patrol car Friday in the parking lot of the Target Center on Van Dyke near 15 Mile Road. - from policeone.com"
But other than this is is rather quite with strict rules. Sterling Heights values protection. There are always cops driving up and down the streets here for routine. They are friendly and when you call them- they always come out. Noise control is big in Sterling Heights- So if you have a noisy neighbor, just pick up the phone and they will be Read More

Response to "Rat-Race" Commentator - 11/29/2006
I've lived in Sterling Heights since the spring of 2003, and metro Detroit since December of 2000. I'm originally from the Grand Rapids area, and I think the person who spoke of the city as a "suburban rat-race" didn't do much to quantify that specifically to Sterling Heights. I feel the city is no more a rat-race than any other population dense city in a major metropolitan area. There are excellent schools, very low crime, and a sense of community in Sterling Heights that is prevelant from the government level on down to the quiet neighborhood streets. I've experienced pleasantries for the most part from fellow residents.

Unemployment may be high, but that isn't uncharacteristic of virtually any area in Michigan with the manufacturing downsizing taking place. If someone doesn't have the skillset to land a professional job amongst the neighboring big business districts including Troy, Southfield, Auburn Hills, downtown Detroit, or in certain instances, Sterling Read More

For those who like unfriendly people, rampant road rage and high unemployment, then the metro area north of Detroit is for you. The price of housing is well above average as well.
The worst part about living in this area is the lack of jobs. Unemployment is over 8% (the national average is 5%) so finding a job that pays a decent wage is nearly impossible. And don't try to look for a job in the summer. With the onslaught of students looking for temporary work while out of school, job hunting becomes a gas-wasting, time-consuming futile effort with very little prospect for those who don't still live with their Read More
