Think twice - 2/23/2008
I lived in Austin for 15 years. I only lasted that long because I had kids and wanted to raise them close to my hometown in another state. I would recommend that you seriously think twice about moving there. The schools are very poor and the people are very unfriendly. If you were not born and raised there, you will be considered an outsider and basically ostricized from the community. The people are not "welcoming" at all. There is nothing to do there unless you hunt and fish. Even then, you will have to drive North of there to do that because it is the only county in MN without its own natural lake. The main business in town is Hormel. They basically run the town and tell it what to do. It smells horrible in the Summer due to the Hog slaughter at the plant. Not so bad in Winter. It is very hot and humid in the Summer and very cold and snowy in the Winter. The Hospital in town is horrible and I wouldn't take my dog there to have it treated. Stay Read More
