bad area
- 8/7/2020
Moved down here from the midwest. Crime is very bad in pearl river county. 4 or 5 murders in the county so far this year. Drugs are all over. Decaying houses are all over the county. They seem not to want to spend any money to get them tore down. If i knew what i know now, i would have not moved here. The population has dropped 5 percent since 2010. According to some websites. And it is considered a suburb of new orleans since

Beware in picayune.
- 12/14/2018
Picayune is overall a decent place to live. Beware of constractors. Over all they are good people however they hire all of the dope heads and excons that will Rob you blinds. Seems like a great part of the population is on meth and or herion. Jobs are unheard of. But if you're retired and wanna a nice piece of property for cheap and stay to yourself then this is the place. Gas is cheap. Stores are

we moved from southern Indiana, the snow and cold weather, you can have it. It did get hot there yet not as humid, the growing season here is longer, there is no tax on federal retirement, gas is cheaper than up north, I live in the country and can go to new Orleans or the coast if I want "culture", don't have to contend with the traffic which is a blessing. Cost of living is dependent on how and where you shop. SERVICES SEEM A BIT EXPENSIVE SO SHOPPING AROUND OR DO IT YOURSELF MAY BE THE BEST OPTION.,CRIME IS LOW AT LEAST OUT HERE IN THE COUNTRY,WAGES FOR MOST JOBS ARENT THAT HOT, THE SCHOOL SYSTEM ISNT THAT HOT, PEOPLE LIKE TO EAT FRIED FOOD THUS HEALTH PROBLEMS BUT THAT IS TRUE IN A LOT OF PLACES.CHURCH IS BIG, BAPTISTS FOR SURE, NOTHING AGAINST IT.UTILITIES ARENT BAD YOU ONLY NEED HEATER FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH OR SO AS OPPOSED TO 4 OR 5, IF YOU ARE FRUGAL, GROW SOME OF YOUR OWN FOOD, AND CAN FIX A LOT OF THINGS YOURSELF O.K, ALSO, DONT GET FREAKED IF YOU CANT GET YOUR CULTURE FIX, YOU

First Impressions, May Retire There
- 7/17/2010
This is a busy little town with people who like people. Downtown is old but kept clean. Could use a few more restaurants so you don't have to drive all the way to Slidel,(?)LA.. The theme that seems to run through it is God, Family, Community and USA. The crime rate is "reportably", high and their education system could use lot$ of $$$$$$ per student. Unemployment is very high but the churches are helping as much as they can and neighbor is helping neighbor plus Bartering for exchange of goods and services has been revived.
Like the rest of the USA today, Picayune needs an economic boost. There are many homes, lots and acreage for sell in all price ranges as well as commercial lots & businesses. It's a candidate for a retirement community but their health services should be improved.......for
