Sparta would be a great place to live if you like extreme quiet, the elderly (and not much more) There are few children. Sparta is building a new high school when the current school isn't even running at full capacity. If you're stopped by police for any reason, the follow you every time they see you afterwards - regardless of why they stopped you to begin with. Hwy 14 runs right through downtown so at rush hour you may very well find yourself unable to get to the store, post office, or anywhere else for that matter because of the traffic. Lots of drug use ( so I've heard) never hear about events and such until after it takes place since the paper only comes out once a week. No hospital, no choice of doctors, stores or gas stations. We have to travel a minimum of 10 miles to get to Walmart and as for hospital and choice of doctors its a trip to Springfield which from where I live is 45 minutes away. Renting housing is impossible if you have a felony record regardless of how old it is. Read More
