Come for the meth, stay for the corruption. - 9/24/2021
If corruption and authoritarianism were a city, it would be Thayer MO. The town is riddled with meth, real crime (meaning crimes with actual victims such as theft or assault) is rampant, and our city focuses instead on petty ordinances to micromanage people's lives, such as how many yard sales you can have in a year or whether or not you have two dogs or three.

The roads are atrocious. The utilities (city-owned) are through the roof. The people are among the poorest in the country. We have more sex offenders per capita than New York, San Francisco, Chicago or Las Vegas. And our city keeps finding new and creative ways to waste our tax dollars.

If that sounds like your cup of tea, by all means come and visit. But for God's sake if you're trying to raise a family, avoid Thayer at all costs. Living in Thayer will destroy any chance they have at a future.
