Yes, there is shopping available, but you have to drive 1 1/2 hours to Great Falls, with very poor shopping for it's size, or 2 1/2 hours over a mountain pass (almost never a good idea between October and April/May) to Kalispell.
The prison on the edge of town is a decent employer (my husband works there), but it sure brings a bad element to this town. There are cops in my neighborhood breaking something up at least 5 times/week! Groceries are more expensive than I've seen anywhere elsewhere outside of a gas station. The school system has very low standards and the roads are steep hills over 1/2 the town, and torn up all over town. Housing is cheap, but the buildings are junk; probably a bunch of them should be condemned as unsafe or substandard housing, but they just keep letting it go.
