Mixed Feelings - 7/20/2007
West Wendover is a casino town on the Nevada/Utah border near the Bonneville Salt Flats. People here basically work in the casinos (5), law enforcement, schools, fast foods or the one market. I'm a teacher. To get to any major towns with a WalMart or a hospital it's about a 1 1/2 hour drive east into Utah or west to Elko. We have one medical clinic with unbendable hours of 8-5 M-F (don't get sick on the weekend or after 5pm) which people will swear by or swear at. Count me in the latter group. There's a small library and also a Starbuck's in one of the casinos. Other than that no real clothing or book stores. There's one small 3-screen movie theater on the Utah side of Wendover, and the big event last year was when the dollar store opened. It's a good place for kids at the elementary school level and reasonably safe for them. The high school appears to be another story, and there isn't much for teens to do.
