Wide Open for Business Development - 3/28/2024
We moved from Klamath Falls, OR, where we lived for 14 yrs. and was one of the friendliest towns I've experienced, to Dayton in 2019. Priced out of the housing markets in Carson City, we opted for retiring in Dayton. This bedroom community of Carson City has been growing very fast to 16,000 and there are new subdivisions with homes on smaller lots and condos being built right now. Traffic is heavy with commuters to Carson and we need another large grocery store as well as more business development. Once hailed as the place where gold and silver were first discovered in NV, the "downtown" area is woefully underdeveloped and there are a few restaurants but not enough. Shopping choices are very limited but we now have an Ace hardware store that has been a great addition. We have excellent medical/dental care here with an Urgent Care also but hospitals are located in Carson City. The gated golf course community is insulated from the Hwy 50 flow where a small state park and several Read More

Not favorable - 11/28/2021
Do yourself a huge favor before you decide to live here, and visit during both summer and winter. Don't rely on the lying locals that tell you how mild the winters are here because they're not. It gets very cold and windy. Oh, and the hateful locals that do nothing shy of bag on anyone that moves from out of state, especially California. Funny thing is, most of the locals that have nothing but hatred in their hearts for their fellow sister state, but yet will visit and vacation there. It's hilarious!
I'd say try Southern Nevada over Northern Nevada, at least you'll be warm, and experience a more culturally diverse population. Read More

A Great Place to Retire - 6/3/2015
After retiring from California we searched from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona and Nevada and we settled in Dayton Nevada. It is a wonderful small town just 11+ miles east of Carson City. South Lake Tahoe is less than an hour away and the Sierra Nevada offers endless recreation. The Dayton Valley Country Club has a beautiful golf course and the neighborhoods are lined with trees and great for walking. Homes here are much more affordable than Carson City, Reno, and Gardnerville. Where can you find new homes with 3-car garages on a golf course for $240,000 and up. Lots of shopping and entertainment opportunities in Carson City and Reno. Good hospitals and medical close by as well. The weather here is moderate, neither too hot or too cold. To top it off there is no state income tax in Nevada. Don't think we could have found this combination of amenities anywhere else. in the west. Read More

Business Climate - 7/29/2006
Dayton has been struggling for the last few years. The economic climate is not very strong for low to moderately skilled Read More
