Concrete is Gold & Brothel Income is Kept a Secret - 10/27/2009
Concrete is Gold for the Nye County Assessor! … And other Outrageous behavior …
The Nye County Assessor is the biggest problem in Pahrump. Pahrump is a quiet, peaceful and economic place to live except for the Nye County Assessor. The Assessor sends out its employees to snoop on every residence in the town of Pahrump. Why, you ask? Because the Assessor is looking for concrete! Yes, concrete. The Nye County Assessor charges property tax by how much concrete you put on your land.
For instance, if there is a water well pump house constructed, the Assessor wants to know if the floor is made of concrete. If you put a post in the ground, the assessor wants to know if you stabilized the post with concrete. This crazy behavior of the Assessor is due to the Assessor’s ravenous need for County revenue. (Why? When the 28 working Brothels in Nye County bring in million of dollars in revenue; Yes, the Brothels pay for the majority of the schooling for children. But, the Assessor Read More

It takes a certain personality to live in Pahrump. - 7/7/2009
This is the Wild West. Gambling, prostitution, fireworks, owning pet lions, all of this is okay and legal here, so you have to be aware and okay with all of it. There are about twice as many bars and taverns as there ought to be for the population, so there is a lot of cheap beer flowing because of the competition. You can probably imagine that this is not a great place to raise children. It can be done, however, if you are a good parent and you pay attention. The schools are okay, perhaps a bit underfunded. To counteract all the vice here, there are a decent number of churches and Christian schools, if you're into that.

The town council is going to put in a prison right up the street, despite all the people trying to fight it, so expect that happening in a year or so. There's definitely some corruption in government here. When the sheriff's wife ran for a judge position, it looked a lot like a conflict of interest. She didn't win, but it was pretty ballsy. quality of life in pahrump - 7/15/2007
I have now lived in Pahrump for five years. We moved here from Las Vegas because we were tired of not having any space, being fearful when sending kids to school, worrying about home invasion break-ins, and generally all things related to large city crime stats. I will say Pahrump has had it's growing pains; with that said there is now an open and operational hospital, a super wal-mart, huge amounts of new commercial office/retail space, and many other new businesses slated for development. It is about a 45 minute drive to the south end of las vegas with all needed shopping, dining, medical and technical facilities in that area. I can attest, that it has often taken me 45 minutes to get across the vegas valley, so the drive in from pahrump is a cost that I consider a trade off for the fact that my child can attend a private school for only $200 per month; the car doors have never been locked wether in the driveway or in the parking lot; the lock on my front door is usually left Read More

I think Pahurmp is good place to raise a family - 1/26/2007
Yes I think Pahrump is a good place to raise a family. We moved to pahrump in 2005 because we didn't want our kids growing up in Las Vegas. All the crime, over crowded schools. We couln't move to far from Vegas because of my husband's work. My girls are doing great in school and I love the country-like atmosphere. In Pahrump, people are relaxed and enjoy life because there is no traffic to fight and little crime. Yes my husband has an hour drive to work, but so does some of his coworkers who live in Vegas. They work on one end of town and live on the other. There is a Community College, and a Hospital. Today, Pahrump is one of the fastes growing towns in Nevada. They are using former farm land and are developing it into housing. William Lyons are currently building a golf course community which is called Mountain Falls with a championship Golf course. Beazer and American West are also coming out to Pahrump. Remember, twenty years ago people wondered why anyone would drive Read More

in 1999 you could not give a house away in pahrump. a 1600sq. ft. home could be picked up in forclosure for$90.000 today that same home $300.000 but look out the pahrump/las vegas housing crash is coming. homes purchased for no money down and properties with equity have been home equity loaned or arm loan to the max to support the owners gambling addition.once the prices of these overvalued homes come down. look out.the pahrump housing market will revert back to the 1999 senerio, forclosed homes for $90.000 if they can get that.no Read More

Pahrum general - 2/24/2006
No zoning, no hospital, Walmart but no Home Depot, Fire department covers only 4.5 mile circle in center of valley rest of us NFPA zone 10, or on our own due to response time so if neighbors house burns yours might also. On the good side a hospital is almost built, however has no water or sewer service despite a judicial order for it to be supplied by the private untility that is in financial trouble and may be delayed yet again perhaps six months to a year. County services improving slowly with time, road paving and water control greatly improved over last 10 years. City, unincorporated, having usual growing pains with the fifth attempt at incorporation, other four defeated, as south end of valley is becoming Las Vegas bedroom community with several thousand new homes approved for constuction and one 777 unit currently under construction. New construction making it difficult to obtain repairs but situtation greatly improved over last year or so. Town has no industy of note, Read More
