Question: what's it like? - 9/9/2006
I am looking to move to Reno as a renter. I see that house prices are going way up, but rents still seem pretty reasonable from what I can tell on the internet. How is the city to live in day-to-day? Are the people friendly? Is the traffic well-mannered? Are there safety concerns? Is the job market expanding like they say? Is it pretty despite having little

On the move - 9/3/2006
Housing has become extremely expensive here in relation to the average household income. Five years ago it was very reasonable, then California showed up and five years later--high prices, a glut of inventory and a minimum 3 to 4 months to sell. My husband and I are both self employed with good incomes and okay retirement resources. Looking to move out of state to either coast by next Spring for retirement in a smaller town, less expensive and not such weather extremes--summers are long and hot, winters are long and cold--not much in-between even though the "city" likes to talk about it's "four seasons). If you blink your eyes you will miss all but

Reno has a great Climate - 7/28/2006
Reno is one of the best cities I have lived in. Although it is desert, it still traditionally less hot than other desert communities. We get snow in the winter and normally cool temperatures at night in the summer. Overall, the climate is very

Everyone here is from California...lots of rich retirees and poor trailer trash. Decent climate, but very dry and brown. Below average wages, but high cost of living...starter homes will run you close to 400k. Very tight job market, few high paying jobs. Near Lake Tahoe. Slightly above average crime rate. Not much of a community feeling here. People are either just barely scraping by or live in high-end gated neighborhoods. Very little in the way of cultural attractions, shopping is ok but not great. In many ways an overgrown hick town. Has plenty of nice areas but seems to always be a little rough around the edges.

Recreation in Reno and Environs - 4/18/2006
Reno has great hiking and biking trails; many golf courses; a kayak watercourse in the Truckee River and access to desert camping to the east and forests to the west. Many historic locations abound including ghost towns and mining camps, pony express stations and historic Fort

I dont like Reno - 4/18/2006
Been here for two years and I'm getting ready to go. Not many jobs for an I.T. guy, not much to do unless you're into gambling and casinos, ok weather, though. Not very culturaly diverse. I suppose it would be a good place for an aspiring entrepreneur, but thats because there is nothing here. Good place if you have
