Jersey City is a little rough around the edges, with the crime and crowdedness associated with a big city, but it is closer to Manhattan than some parts of Manhattan. It has many subway links to downtown and midtown, various ferry services and of course, the Holland tunnel right

the 6th borough - 1/24/2006
Jersey City is like the 6th borough of New York City. I didnt think I'd like "Dirty Jersey" but there are some things I miss about it. Jersey City is so close to Manhattan its ridiculous. The public transportation that links Jersey City to NYC is great. You can easily get to the city in about 20 to 30 minutes on train or bus from Jersey City. You may not be able to take a leisurely stroll in Jersey City but I found that getting to the basics like grocers, corner stores, etc. was convenient. If you don't want to live in NYC but want to be in NYC, this is the perfect place. Housing is a lot cheaper and you still get the benefits of being in a NYC
