But its a DRY Heat! - 3/19/2006
Alamogordo is a quiet little town located in the south central part of NM. Its home of Holloman AFB and its also an excellent retirement town. If you don't mind temperatures in the upper 90's and in low 100's in June, July and especially August then this town is for you. Winters are mild and Cloudcroft is the nearest winter wonderland when it does snow. (about 30 miles east) El Paso is about 90 miles south and you are near also to the Mexican border. Rainfall is almost non-existent in "them there parts"..but its a Dry Heat! Humidity is virtually not a word here either. Population is around 35,000 and the housing is becoming more expensive since its a very popular little city for people who want to get away from the big city but still want to enjoy the warmth of the S/W. Alamogordo is a quaint little town to rest relax and retire. Snowbirds Read More

Crime rates - 8/10/2005
According to the FBI, Alamogordo, NM is one of the safest small cities around. I am left questioning your murder and rape stats. An explanation of these numbers would be worth examining. I realize that the stats are skewed to a per 100,000 per capita calculation BUT...There have been no murders recently to add to this data nor do I find the rape numbers believable.
Violent crime in this area is rare and it usually involves gangs passing thru between El Paso and the crime mecca of the Southwest...Albuquerque.
I would appreciate your readers knowing that life in this part of the country is safe and that the ordinary person looking at some of your stats would probably wonder what is going on in such a small city. When the FBI gives us high marks and the day to day happenings on the streets say that we have a very safe city, it pains me to see stats such as yours reflect badly on what the real situation is.
