Worst place I've lived - 4/23/2010
People say "Clovis isn't so bad." Well, let me be the honest voice here. I am not pleased with Clovis. We expected to like it - we had heard there was a moderate cost of living and that it was a great place for families. What we have found is quite the opposite. First, we paid $167,000 for a 1300 sq foot house - hardly what I would call "moderate" and especially considering how much more (better, newer, etc.) house we can get for that price in Lubbock, or San Antonio, or just about anywhere with more to offer than Clovis. Second, as for being great for families - we haven't seen that! We have a 6 year old and there are not many programs offered for his age. Where we used to live he had tons of options for sports and other events - here, it's limited at best.

Also, the "Clovites" (those who are "from" here) are LESS than welcoming to outsiders - good luck blending in at a church or any other group. If you're not from here, go to a big church where there are lots Read More

Clovis Living - 12/21/2008
All these negative people need to get real. Clovis is not a bad place to live in really. Sure like all other areas there are problems with crime and drugs, but divide that by the pop and then compare...not so bad after all. Don't like something..then don't sit and complain. Take a positive approach and try to make a difference. There's plenty of changes needed but do you know of a place that doesn't??? Be real, make the best of any situation you are in and the world really will be a better place even if there are a few rocks in the Read More

Awful Place to Live - 9/24/2008
High crime rates. High use of Meth. I suspect that most of it comes from the lack of entertainment within 100 miles from the city. I spent a year there, and it was one the worst year of my life. The people in the city rely on the military to sustain them financially, which is probably why the politicians were able to con AFSOC into taking over the base. The town is pretty run down, and the real estate between 1st Street and 14th Street is undesirable due to it being run down and crime infested. The summers are really hot and the winters are really cold. The only thing close to good I can say about the place is there's alot of Read More

WHY LIVING IN CLOVIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED - 5/12/2008
While this area has a reasonable cost-of-living and crime is low, statistics are rising. The population has grown to over 50,000 - the police can't keep officers because the city does not pay enough - there is a shortage of officers.

On the subject of health, the air quality is VERY poor. The medical care
is among the worst in the nation. The doctors are 4th rate rejects who would not be accepted in any good medical institute. The hospital, Plain Regional Medical Center is a JOKE! Honestly, you would stand a better chance of surviving at Huntsville, Texas (where the executions are held) than at this sorry excuse of a hospital. They first had 13 violations by the state and then got another 37 citations. That is how bad the hospital, doctors and medical care in Clovis is. Most people here choose to go to Lubbock Texas, where the care is fair quality, but still not outstanding. We go to Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, the finest in the country, rated #1 in Read More

Clovis is not a good place to live - 1/8/2006
Clovis, New Mexico is a very undesriable place to live. The schools here are inferior to many in the nation. I would wager to say that the schools in Mississippi are far superior (Now that is really saying something!) There are no fine restaurants in town to dine at. The best store to shop in here is Walmart. you have to drive 100 miles to either Lubbock, TX or Amarillo, TX to feel as if you are not in a lost civilization. The town smells like cow manuer 24/7 and the locals boast that the aforementioned stench is the smell of money. Clovis is truly the armpit of the Read More
