Deming living - 7/14/2015
I have lived there for 10 years. Beautiful scenery. Climate is great. Cost of living is low. Population nearly 15,000, 87% Hispanic. One of the poorest counties in the USA. There is a Wal Mart and Peppers grocery ( very good). A golf course, a municipal pool, a movie theatre and 2 good wineries. There are a few chain fast foods. If you are retired and sedentary, you would enjoy living in Deming. If you have a family and have a need for activities, access to good food, shopping, events, or a job.......you do not want to live in Deming. Read More

Good old boy area. If not born there you will be - 10/15/2011
Very prone to treating new moving here as outsiders. Been here several years and feel will always be an outsider never a art of the community.

Local Walmart main food store and their opinion is they are god and if they do not like you they will ban you from all Walmart property world wide for ever and never tell you why even if you ask!!

Would move if could get money investd in realestate out of purchased property. Profit not required just what I have invested!!

County does not enforce county ordnance's even when it places peoples property and life in danger such as fireworks and open fires baned in two ordnances yes law enforcement refuses to enforce these and others on the books. Under New Mexico State Law the Sheriff is required to enforce these county laws but does not probably to political reasons.

Do not recommend moving here unless you live here in a rental for at least 1-2 years so you can evaluate the area for your self.  Read More

Compromised Affordable Place to Live - 11/10/2007
Deming, NM, 30 miles from the Mexican border in Southwest New Mexico, is a very affordable place to live. Housing is still very much below the national average; property taxes are pretty low. As affordable as it is, we attract people who have very low income, and we are struggling to catch up to the 21st Century in many ways because of the lack of funding: no movie theatre or recreational activities, triage-like medical care; improving, but still well below national average education. Currently, there are 50 high school pregnancies.

For those who are above poverty level (the minority), it is frustrating. There are many, many run down homes/mobile homes that you can't avoid on your way to any where, including nice homes. Crime is high, both violent and property, and the ILLEGAL ALIEN AND DRUG SMUGGLING UNDERGROUND IS ALIVE AND WELL IN DEMING.

The winter weather is not extreme. Trace snow; cold nights (teens), but reasonable days (40s). Spring is Read More
