Some Really Amazing Churches in the City of the Cr - 7/1/2007
The main reason my family and I remain here is our church - if it weren't for our church we would have moved back to Albuquerque or Santa Fe. We go to Heart for the World (Vineyard) and have been outrageously blessed there for 10 years.
Ours is not the only great church in town, either - I know of a LOTS of others that are full of caring, committed beleivers whose priorities center around serving and worshipping Jesus, growing in Christ, and showing compassion and mercy for the poor and the brokenhearted.
My husband and I both grew up on California - much more multi-cultural, more natural beauty (IMHO), the ocean, museums, libraries, zoos, concerts, the ballet, theater, awesome public transportation etc...and none it is as great here as it was there - we just aren't a big enough city to support all that -- and the desert will never be as lovely to me as the ocean. BUT, we know we are where God wants us to be, in a church body where we are loved,

What happened? - 5/8/2007
I was terribly disappointed to see Las Cruces going the way of Santa Fe - overcrowded with a plastic veneer thanks to the California invasion. The population growth in Las Cruces has ruined a once-beautiful landscape. Elephant Butte reservoir is drying up because people insist on watering golf courses and lawns in the desert. Why choose to live in a desert if you need greenery to be happy? It used to be a refuge for people with pollen allergies but I doubt that's the case now. The traffic is much worse and this once-picturesque place is becoming ugly with cramped housing developments creeping up the side of the Organ

How bad is the air pollution? - 2/3/2007
It seems that the air is very polluted for the population. Does the pollution come from El Paso or is the air as polluted as this site indicates? Is the pollution worse in the winter do to temperature inversion? Thanks for your feedback on

THE QUALITY OF LIFE HAS BEEN DESTROYED - 12/5/2006
At one time Las Cruces was a beautiful city and a wonderful place to live. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. This city has gotten in over it's head when it comes to growth. There are developments going up all over the desert. They are destroying the lay of the land by blocking arroyos and other natural run-off areas. As a result homes are being flooded in areas where floods were never a problem. The desert was a beautiful place enjoyed by everyone. Now you can hardly take a walk without coming up on a development. The houses are going up right to the base of our majestic Organ Mountains. Even the beauty of our sunsets has been compromised. A red sunset is rare these days. Our sunsets are now mostly orange which is an indication that the air is not as clean as it used to be. The homes that are being built are out of reach of Las Crucens. Our school system is terrible. I could go on and on, but it depresses me to think of what has happened to my once beautiful

Las Cruces is great...but not for everyone. - 11/5/2006
I think the person who mentioned that there is a great mix of chemistry between the two major cultures of the region (hispanic and white). Las Cruces is a real place with real people. And contrary to another post, there is only an very small population that speaks only spanish. Most hispanics speak english or are bilangual. If you want a clean, cosmetically bleached place to do some corprate shopping, move to pheniox, where there is brand new stucco and a chain grocery store or mini mall on every corner. However, I wouldnt say Cruces is not developing, just not doing so terribly fast. I went all the way through the public school system, and just recently have been accepted to a Phd program in chemistry. I thought I obtained a well rounded education. The schools could be improved, but it seems money in this country is going elsewhere right now. But, if your kids hold above a 3.0 gpa in a NM high school they can go to a state university without paying tuition (lottery

Las Cruces is Great! - 8/11/2006
Las Cruces is a beautiful city with the feel of a small town. The multicultural atmosphere is wonderful and there is a budding art scene. I attend New Mexico State University and enjoy it very much, it has the services of a large institution but a small school feel. The weather is the best I've encountered, there are several days over 100 degrees in the summer but the lack of humidity and winter weather make it well worth it. The people are very friendly and anything you can't find in the way of shopping and dining can be found 40 miles down the road in El Paso. I am also married and have two children and the are many city sponsored activities and events year round. Diversity is celebrated not shunned in Las Cruces, whether it is race, religion, or some kind of disability you are welcome, I've never seen a better chemistry and relationship between different races. The cost of living is low and growth is going full steam ahead, there is also almost no place in Las Cruces that I'd be

Las Cruces and the Lan of Enchantment - 1/25/2006
I think that after growing up in Las Cruces all other places pale in comparison. The majesty of the Organ Mountains, and the amazing people make it a great place to live and raise kids. The downsides are high unemployment rate and low pay for most jobs. It couldn't be more beautiful
