What BestPlaces Users Say about Taos

Taos, New Mexico is a small town located in the northern part of the state, known for its rich Native American and Spanish cultural heritage, as well as its vibrant art scene. It is also a popular destination for outdoor recreation, with access to skiing, hiking, and other activities in the nearby mountains. However, living in Taos may not be for everyone, and there are mixed opinions among residents and visitors about the pros and cons of living in this particular place.

MeganSmith91 wrote on BestPlaces.net: "I love living in Taos for its unique and diverse community. The blend of Native American, Hispanic, and Anglo cultures creates a beautiful melting pot. However, the cost of living is high and job opportunities are limited." Similarly, JohnDoe23 stated, "Taos has a special charm and the natural beauty is beyond compare. However, the small town vibe can also feel claustrophobic and the winters can be tough for those not used to the high altitude." On the other hand, SarahGardner45 shared, "I've lived in Taos my whole life and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The people are friendly, the scenery is breathtaking, and there's always something new to discover." Finally, MarkJohnson77 expressed, "I moved to Taos for the outdoor recreation, but the lack of diversity and job opportunities have made me consider leaving. It's a great place to visit, but not sure if it's the best for long-term living."

Taos, you deserve a visit! Hi - 1/17/2022
I’ve traveled to many places in my lifetime.

New Mexico is a favorite.
Typically we stay in The Inn of The Governor’s in Santa Fe. (It’s an awesome place.)
This winter we split our time up (5days each) between Taos and Santa Fe.
Taos in my opinion has friendlier locals than Santa Fe, the food is amazing and the landscape is breathtaking.

Art, wow so much opportunity to see talents expressed in many mediums.

If you’re interested in an amazing place with awesome weather and breathtaking scenery, you owe it to yourself to come to this area of Northern New Read More

On the Cusp of Climate Zones - 3/4/2008
What makes Taos a wonderful place to live or visit is the fact that it sits on the cusp of such varied climate/terrain zones. From the center of town you can drive 20-30 minutes in different directions and find: sage brush desert, high alpine mountains (Skiing), the Rio Grande Gorge, Grassy meadows and rolling hills, Historic Towns, hot springs, etc.
