Access is what it's about - 4/7/2017
Centereach is, as the name implies, in the center of Long Island. It was originally, farmland but now, is chocked full of housing developments and stores. One of it's main appeals is the access to virtually any store within a few miles. Harbor Freight, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Home Depot, Lowes, a large mall with Macy's and JC Pennys...and many more all within those few miles. It has close access to the main highway through Long Island: the LIE or Long Island Expressway. While predominantly a blue collar community, it is changing as newer McMansions have replaced smaller tract homes. Culturally, there's not much happening in Centereach but there are many good restaurants, bars, clubs all pretty close. They do have an excellent library, probably one of the better on LI and an excellent inter-library system. Home prices aren't as bad as other parts of the island but taxes are high, as they are on most of the island. We're talking around 9K in property taxes for a modest home
