Moved Back to Long Island - 10/13/2007
I grew up in Nassau County, moved to Suffolk, then to South Carolina , back north to New Jersey and then home again in Miller Place. Miller Place is one of the best places to live on Long Island. The schools are good , it is safe, and plenty of shopping. You can always find a less expensive "pocket area" to live with lower priced homes. Close to beaches, Tanger Outlet, Greenport is a nice 1 hr drive and Montauk is about a 2hr drive. The cost of living on Long Island is one of the highest. If you can afford to live here, it is good. If you have a commute to work, congestion is really bad and road rage is worse. For those moving from another state, the pace is hectic , stress is high ( note a Liquor store or Bar on every corner- I never saw this in the other states where I lived), and the children try to keep up with the other kids ( Hollister, Abercrombie, cell phones, Ipods,etc..). i live on long island, and yes it is very nice, but also very expensive to live, especially taxes. we pay almost $10,000 in real estate taxes and they just go up every year. yes, our school district is very good, but how much more taxes can we pay already. my husband has a small business here, and he's getting clobbered not just with taxes, but from the town. did i mention we live in the town of BROOKHAVEN. they are the most crooked bunch of people! most people here already know this. anyway, sorry to ramble. But we are close to beaches and parks, and about an hour from the city. just getting a little too crowded with all the houses they're building
