What BestPlaces Users Say about New York

Background Information:

New York City, also known as the Big Apple, is one of the most iconic and populous cities in the United States. It is a global center for finance, media, fashion, and culture, making it a highly desirable place to live for many people. However, with its high cost of living and bustling city lifestyle, it may not be the ideal location for everyone. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in New York City.

Excerpts from User Reviews:

1. "I've lived in New York City for over a decade and I have to say, it's the best decision I've ever made. The energy and diversity of this city is unmatched. There's always something to do and something new to discover. The only downside is the cost of living, but if you can afford it, it's worth every penny." - Sarah123

2. "I moved to New York City for a job opportunity and I have to admit, it's been a tough adjustment. The fast-paced lifestyle and high cost of living can be overwhelming, but there's also so much to love about this city. The food, the culture, the people - it's all so vibrant and exciting. You just have to be prepared for the challenges that come with living here." - JohnDoe87

3. "I've been living in New York City my whole life and I can't imagine calling any other place home. Yes, it's expensive, but the opportunities and experiences here are endless. From Broadway shows to world-class museums, there's always something to do. And the best part is the diversity - there's always a new culture or cuisine to explore." - NYCbornandbred

4. "I recently relocated to New York City and I have to say, it's been a dream come true. The city is bursting with creativity and inspiration. It's a melting pot of different cultures and ideas, which makes it a perfect place for artists and entrepreneurs. Plus, the public transportation system is amazing - you can literally get anywhere in the city without needing a car." - WanderlustArtist

Not a place to raise children - 1/21/2011
I was born and raised in New York. I left here in 2003 and came back in 2008 to help my daughter with her children. My husband and 2 younger kids came with me. That was the wrong thing to do. New York seem to have changed. It is not the place if you have children and want to bring them up with fresh air, trees, decent living conditions, decent schooling. My babies are asking to leave New York. We just are not happy here. New York is all about who can get the most money out of you. You can have a decent paying job and still not be able to live in a good neighborhood to raise your family. Your children can only get into good schools if you have the money for private schools. Childcare is very expensive. Rents are sky high. It just is not a good Read More

Sperling states that the teacher student ratio in NY, NY is 17/1
I say its more like 26/1. You're not even including the boroughs

First Class Entertainment - 11/21/2010
Without question NY City has the best in entertainment. We have: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium, multiple Opera companies, Ballet, Theater, and Carnegie Hall. These are the shining stars of New York.

On the flip side the noise pollution is intolerable. Jackhammers are everywhere, the government is corrupt, and the infrastructure is falling apart. If it was not the case that the original construction from the 1930's was so well done this city would have already collapsed. If you move here be prepared for major exploitation. NY is no longer attracting jobs as it has in the past because the taxes are just insane causing an exodus of white collar jobs leaving behind those who cannot escape.

Come for a visit but do not stay. You have been Read More

Where to in Austin, Texas - 11/17/2010
I currently live in Brooklyn, New York with my husband and 2 boys, ages 11 & 7. We're researching Austin, Texas as a place to move to in order to raise our boys in a safe and fun environment where the education opportunities are excellent and life is enjoyable with less stress than living in New York.
