Do NOT Invest in Troy New York - 12/18/2019
My great grandparents came from Germany to settle in Troy, NY in 1885.
Troy in the early days beyond the corruption of politics was a safe place to live.
The current climate is ridden with domestic violence. Most recent:
3 charged with murder of 19 year old girl. Gun violence.
Mother sentenced for killing 21 month old son.
Troy man bear his girlfriends 3 year old son to death while babysitting.
Husband shot and killed his estranged wife.
Quadruple murder-Family killed over Xmas
The list is endless and horrific.
Homes have declined because landlords are out of state renting to low-income families. The neglect of DSS and Housing do not take the time to investigate family composition makes the city additionally unstable. Did I mention the drug houses?
All 350 or more with the Red X are used by homeless or drug dealers.
Should I go on?
This City should not be rated as one of the BEST places to LIVE.

An industrial-era gem on the Hudson River - 5/26/2018
I've lived in Troy for 17 years and love it more than ever. I was initially attracted by its handsome industrial-era architecture, walkable downtown and budding arts scene. It was quieter back then and a little run down. Lots of beautiful old buildings had fallen into decline. But it was a city with good bones, friendly people, and lots of local pride. Due to the grassroots efforts of some dedicated citizens, we gained a fabulous regional farmer's market and lots of home-grown small businesses. Many shops have come and gone over the years, but our downtown continues to bustle with small tech, business incubators, hip restaurants and breweries, an indie bookstore, vintage and boutique clothing shops, several banks, a drug store, health food shop, and the post office. The farmers market brings in thousands of people every Saturday, and it’s a festival-like atmosphere. There’s lot of great old housing stock here, from large Victorians to elegant brownstones and modest row houses. Read More

1840 to 1960 well built homes - 3/16/2016
Troy, NY was once the fourth richest Per Capita city in the nation1880 ! Our beautiful buildings --civic, residential, and business-- rested until this century and are now just one of the assets attracting many new urban dwellers since 2000. We are just seven square miles with the Hudson River to the west, rural fields to East, North and south, Urban and suburban Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady County fill the West side of the Hudson. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Hudson Valley Community College, Russell Sage College / Sage University thrive here. Troy's downtown is alive year round and day, night and weekend with restaurants, Troy Waterfront Farmers Market, tvCOG makers place, and new technology business activity.  Read More

Enjoy Troy! - 5/4/2009
We moved away from Troy to Orange County, CA, about seven months ago for my husband's job. I miss Troy very much. Over the past few decades, Troy has gotten a bad rap, but it is truly experiencing a renaissance. There are active community associations and an "Enjoy Troy" movement dedicated to revitalizing life in Troy, appreciating the arts, and supporting local businesses. We lived right downtown and could walk to the Farmer's Market, lots of little restaurants and shops, and my husband could walk 4 blocks to work. There are lots of families downtown, and the city has or is near any sort of shopping you could want, as well as activities in Albany. There are often events or festivals in Troy, the most famous of which is the Victorian Stroll at Christmas. We lived in an 1890s converted warehouse overlooking the Hudson, a few doors down from where The Night Before Christmas was first published. Founded in 1789, Troy is full of history and was even the home of the real Uncle Sam. Read More
