Charlotte, North Carolina is a bustling city known for its booming economy and southern charm. Here's what some users have to say about living in Charlotte.

Overall, the majority of user reviews on BestPlaces.net speak highly of living in Charlotte. Many reviewers mention the city's friendly atmosphere and numerous job opportunities. As reviewer TimS put it, "Charlotte has a lot going for it, but the cost of living can be a bit steep. It's important to budget wisely and find a good paying job if you want to make it work here."

One aspect that received a lot of attention in the reviews is the weather in Charlotte. Some commenters, like MaryL, love the mild winters and hot summers, saying "I don't mind the heat as long as I have air conditioning." However, others have a different opinion, such as JakeM who wrote, "The summers here are brutal and the winters can be unpredictable. It's something to keep in mind before moving here."

Overall, it seems that most people enjoy living in Charlotte. While there are some concerns about the cost of living and the weather, the overall consensus is that it is a friendly and thriving city with plenty of opportunities. public schools - 12/25/2005
The suburban schools of Charlotte are overcrowed. One high school up north has 60 trailers. 60! Even so a recent $400 million school bond failed. Some say it is because people have lost confidence in the school system and/or the school board. So, if you are thinking of moving to Charlotte you'd do better do some real homework. Don't count on the school system or the Chambers website to tell you how overcrowded the suburban schools are. If you are thinking of moving here you should go visit some schools during lunch or something. In the recent past Charlotte bused kids to schools other than the one closest to their home. A case went all the way to the Supreme Court that struck and struck down the busing thing. We do have neighborhood schools now but, the inequity in school enrollment is tremendous. Average elementary school in Charlotte proper is around 650 kids. In the suburban schools it is twice that number. The school closest to me opened up last year overcapacity and with Read More

city whose soul is unrestricted growth. - 12/4/2005

City is obsessed with growth at all costs but with no provision for new parks or green space. Business leaders want Charlotte to be considered a "world class city" and yet a preacher was able to cause the shut down of cultural funding because he objected to the staging of a Pulitzer prize play. Violent crime and pollution are much higher than in New York City and traffic is almost as bad. In general ,a great place to live if you are a banker.

Charlotte, a sterile banking center - 9/26/2005
Charlotte is a lot like Los Angeles, tiny "city" with endless suburbs - but no beaches, mountains, or tourist attractions without a minimum 2 hour drive. Highly superficial community values, i.e. wealth over education. Very "clean" and thus about as un-hip as you can get. A great place to raise a family, but don't even think about being single here. The city places a much higher value on sports than arts. And walk around downtown during business hours and about every other person (the male ones) are sporting the same banker uniform: blue shirt and khakis. No major university here and so the intellectual culture is completely absent. On the good side, there are lots of trees... but check back in about 10 years, as this place is undergoing deforestation at the same pace as the Read More
