Greenville is PITTiful! - 8/2/2021
Greenville is congested, dirty, drug and bug infested. Poverty levels rising because the elite in the city pool their resources to keep the housing prices extremely high and the lower income residents suffer from subpar apartments.
Mostly housing is first afforded to ECU students. The town is cliquish, systemic and blatant racism is rampant in businesses and the school system. I could go on and on... some like the place but it’s not for me. First chance I get, I’m Read More

Great place to live- hope to never leave! - 6/8/2021
Love this place, it's changed so much over the past 5 to 10 years and is growing in such a great direction. I can't wait to see how it grows in the years to come. Cost of living vs quality of life is by far the best I've ever experienced in the places we've lived (Richmond, Raleigh, etc.). Read More

AVOID - 1/14/2016
absolutely avoid this place. I was (also) tricked to work at ECU unless someone thinks I am dumb enough to willfully drive 953 miles away from a vested position for a clerical job.

If you want to live in a ranch house about as imaginative in its architecture as a box, on a treeless landscape, with BBQ grills burning in the air, this is your place.

I want out. Read More

I agree with the other reviewers on several points about this town. They are correct. This town is very lacking in culture. That is correct. The old attitudes still reign supreme. The downtown area is a conglomeration of attorneys offices, bars, empty building and judicial building with a few unique small businesses and restaurants that are struggling there due to high crime in the whole of town and rents going up to exorbitant amounts for that area.

If you are a college football fanatic (ECU) you will love it. This town revolves around ECU totally and that is all it seems to be about. Nothing is uniquely Greenville.

High crime. Robberies in broad daylight, home invasions, drugs, terrible drivers (and no it isn't just the college kids - many older and younger people here are horrible drivers). The streets and city planning have been terrible and are terribly designed and there is very little to do here. Main stage bands only go to Raleigh or Charlotte. If Read More

Oh, stay away - 6/21/2013
I mistakenly moved to Greenvul 10 yrs ago for a job at the hospital. I was tricked, as on the surface, it seemed a decent place to live. If you want to step back in time 100 yrs politically, socially, and culturely, move here. If you want to be bored out of your mind, move here. I you want to be judged by your last name, marital status, and where you were born, move here. If you are single---its a nightmare. NO SINGLE activities for anyone over 22. If your want to be surrounded by racists --this is your town. If you love 100% humidity and bugs galore, this is your city. If you like to dodge bullets by just driving across town...come to Greenville for sure. Its MISERABLE. Do not get stuck Read More

Which school your child attends in the PCSD will d - 11/20/2012
I have lived in Greenville, NC for that last 9 years. My children have been in the Pitt County School District since that time. One of my children is Autistic, and has been in Special Ed/Title 504 for his entire educational career.

The PCSD, like any school district, has "good" schools and "bad" schools. In my experience, the "Chicod" area has the best teachers (not necessarily best school...it's run down and old).

Chicod Middle feeds into DH Conley High school, from which I got a sense of quiet "taking care of business". It services a much more rural student population than say, JH Rose does. It has a sort of laid back vibe to it. The teachers are friendly.

This as opposed to JH Rose High school, which feels very different. The environment feels like an urban school (crowded, boisterous, obnoxious) and the teachers come off as overworked and barely hanging on to their sanity. My son attended all four years there as part of a pilot Read More

I guess you can call this a small to medium college town. There are things to do, but not as much as a larger city.
