The truth about our town. - 5/31/2018
The post below was written a little less than 10 years ago and only a few months prior to my move to Waynesville. Anyone who moves to any city should do research before just transplanting themselves in to a new community. I researched the heck out of this area and decided on Waynesville for very specific reasons. In the last 10 years, Waynesville has grown considerably. We have a growing community and an increasing awareness of needing to implement more activities. The microbrew community has expanded east from Asheville and Waynesville is now home to multiple award winning local micro breweries. The Hazelwood area is being regenerated and there is a great restaurant, Bourbon Batrel, that has one of the best pork chops anywhere around. Small town community - 7/31/2008
Waynesville is a small town trying to keep up with the big dogs across the mountains. It puts on shows and have festivals downtown but it is not good enough. I have lived here two years going on three and I have to drive to work a half hour away in Asheville to find a good paying job and then have to work a second job just to make ends meet. It has not nightlife and the recreation is not near enough to get to easily, you must drive at least a half hour in any direction to find anything like trails or camping or rafting which is what they advertise they have. Nearby Maggie Valley is a tourist trap and outragiously expensive to visit. I am glad I going away and finding better housing and Read More

A Delightful Place to Retire - 8/24/2007
For those of us who weren't reared there, Waynesville, NC lends itself best to being a small-town retirement community. The "Gateway to the Smokies" is a blissfully peaceful and picturesque town. Main Street is a charming, electic collection of galleries and shoppes. Health care is good: Haywood Regional Medical Center is all single occupancy rooms and Memorial Mission healthcare systems is less than thirty miles away. Best fit: you enjoy walking, reading, coffee shops, a good gym, and quiet days. For significant nightlife and culture, try nearby Read More

Retiree Community - 7/9/2007
We have lived here for about 2 years and as beautiful as it is here, it is no place for a career. Waynesville is a sleepy little town that has no employment available and all of the manufacturing companies are closing down. They are at least 10 years behind the times in everything from fashion to food to ideals. We are in the process of moving somewhere that is more Read More
