A beautiful place no more... - 5/11/2007
I lived in Akron all my life and was very proud of it until 2000 or so. Many people must have heard of how nice it was and rushed on in on the natives. The crime is crazy 2-5 deaths are reported daily. There are hate crimes, race, and the system seems weak. What do you do when major city crooks move into your quiet little town? A beautiful place is now just a Read More

No longer "Rubber City" - 4/27/2007
Having grown up in Akron, I have seen lots of changes over the past 45 yrs.
I find Akron to be just the right size city to live in.Our housing costs are still some of the best in the country, low crime, GREAT library system, and
plenty of entertainment and recreation options. We are no great metropolis, nor
perfect, but if you can't find what you want in Akron, it must be the Read More

What's crime like in the rest of Ohio ? - 4/18/2007
I'm very confused here. I see a number of comments that claim that Akron has a low crime rate, yet the stats on City View indicate that Akron has a horrific crime rate. I'm on the east coast and these crime rates are far higher than any we have and I thought NYC was suppose to be Read More

A wealth of cultural and recreational resources in - 4/17/2006
Akron or the near Akron area has a wealth of cultural events from live concerts, plays, Shakespear festivals, art museums, galleries, universities to unique eateries. It also has one of the largest natural reserves and metro parks anywhere with awesome hiking trails. The summer is full of great art and craft festivals. There's no excuse for not finding something interesting to do here. I don't like the winters anymore due to mobility issues, but it is a great place to live and raise a Read More

Housing is attrocious! - 3/6/2006
Unfortunately, the housing situation in Ohio, and especially in Summit County is awful. The glut on the market of homes going through foreclosure proceedings, along with that of new homes on the market that have yet to be sold are contributing to a buyers market. Unfortunately, through practices of refinancing and rehab home sales along with some low interest rates, houses have continued to be built, creating what I see to be a housing bubble likely to pop. At the minimum, current housing valus will not continue to rise and will stagnate in the area for several years, until the values are more realistic. More likely, the values will fall, creating a market of people overextended on their homes and the equity depreciation will filter through to other areas of the economy. essentially, a 32-41% correction will occur in the Summit county area within the next two years, whether itrwil take several months or several years to correct is the Read More

Akron,Ohio - 8/31/2005
Akron is a nice city trying to recover from the loss of many manufacturing jobs.
The weather tends to be extreme bitter cold with several feet of snow each winter and hot and humid in the summer. It is not very comfortable for people with arthritis or joint replacement. Crime rate is low, but so is job growth. The downtown area is being renovated and becoming a popular night spot with plenty of retaurants and Read More
