Bowling Green OH : A Great Place to Live and Work - 5/23/2010
Bowling Green is a great place to raise a family. Low cost of living, good schools, great parks and a caring community all combine to make BG a great place to live and work. The diversity and cultural activities provided by the local university, BGSU, further enhances our community. There a large number of churches, pizza places and bars. Our mall is small and has suffered during the recent economic downturn however there several malls within 15-20 miles. We are home to the National Tractor Pull, enjoy the annual Wood County Fair in August and have a great Arts Festival with 3 days of art and live music in September. We are only about an hour from Lake Erie and Cedar Point Amusement Read More

Ohio magazine ranked BG one of the best hometowns in the state. Great, laid back place to raise a family; the University (with over 20,000 students)keeps the economy stable. Toledo is a 25-30 minute drive away, so you can enjoy amenities the city has to offer, but avoid the hassles (dwindling population and job market, crime, bad roads). BG schools consistently rank high on the state's school district report cards, and BG Christian Academy offers private education from K-9. People are pretty friendly and laid back; most of the students at BGSU are respectful and don't cause trouble.

The city is well paved with sidewalks, and you can walk or ride a bike just about anywhere. Housing is cheap; My wife and I bought a 4BR, 3BA newer home (a foreclosure) for a little over 130K.

The main downside: taxes are high relative to many areas. BG levies a 1.9% local income tax, but you can see the results (roads, libraries, parks, services), so some may not Read More

Schools and General Living - 3/1/2006
Bowling Green is not your common college town. You are really 20 minutes or less from almost anything you could ever want to do. Very close to Toledo you can still enjoy county like living.

The schools are average, but if you want some of the highest quality schooling available as far as a public schools system Perrysburg ranks high.

For those looking for housing in the area there are several newer homes going up for sale near the fair grounds, mine may be included in the next six months. The neighborhood there (The Bird Streets) is filled with families who have connections to the university, so there is always turnover. There is a BRAND new community center that is right up the street.

The neighbors are great. Anyone looking to move to Bowling Green will not be disappointed if they are looking for a small town feel with a city connection.

Yes...one last thing I always try to remember to mention the Toledo Art Museum has some Read More
