Columbus, Ohio - A comfortable place - 6/5/2007
Columbus, Ohio is comfortable. People are generally friendly and helpful. The economy is healthy, although it has challenges like most places. Being the capital of the state and having several universities in the city are stabilizing factors. The weather is generally mild, sometimes very hot/humid in mid-summer; and winter is becoming more mild and wet and sloppy, rather than the cold and snowy winters of the past. The cost of living is very reasonable, at least compared to many other areas of the Read More

Columbus Opportunitites - 5/4/2007
For twenty-five years I have lived in the Columbus Metropolitan Area and have watched it continueously grow and improve. It is a community willing and able to change. Best part is that you do not have to be a "lifer" to get ahead. Youth and Innovation are Read More

Thinking about moving back to Ohio - 4/29/2007
I was raised in Cincy and live there for 30something years. last year I moved to FL for the nice weather all year round, opportunities, the good life, etc. Not!!! Fl is ok but trust me the grass is not greener on the other side. The crappy low wages and low skilled jobs is enough to make you wanna move back to Ohio where you could at least afford to live a decent life w/decent wages and better job choices. The nice weather yr round is great but not worth it. So many are being priced out of thier homes due to high property taxes and the rising cost of hurricane insurance. Due to the housing slump FL is really getting hit where it hurts, layoffs and foreclosures like crazy. While living in Cincy I visit Columbus alot for concerts but I'd like to get more info on jobs for an expd. pro w/degree in business and nice housing. Thanks in Read More

Overall and all-around, the only place in Ohio wor - 4/25/2007
Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and the Capital of Ohio.
We experience all 4 seasons very distinctly. Cold winters, some snow...we don't get burried in snow like Cleveland, nor do we get the ice storms that Cincinnati gets. We see more sunshine in the winter and don't ususally get blasted too hard or long, like Northeast Ohio does. Spring is usually fairly chaotic with lots of changes...very midwestern. Summers are warm to hot and can be humid, but not like Cincinnati which is hot, sticky and very little air movement in the vallies...we have a breeze usually to at least keep the air moving and the air polution to a minimum. Fall is usually very pleasant and sunny. The leaves are beautiful and the apples are delicious and crisp!
We are a large market for concerts and other cultural events, we are know as a "shoppers paradise" with lots of malls and a vide variety of stores, and an abundance of restaurants. We are home of Ohio State University and a number of other Read More

Great middle ground - 4/20/2007
Close to downtown, columbus taxes and dublin city schools. near tons of shopping, parks and restaurants! If you're a metro-dweller, id choose grandview, or downtown arena area, because sawmill/dublin area is definitely suburban/car driving folk. but you're not too far away drive from a park/walking Read More

Michael is "off target" - 4/3/2007
Guess I'm late to the party on this one, but some of these negative posts, especially Michael's, made me laugh.

According to Michael, "I live in one of the suburbs that just past the smoking ban." Columbus has extensive educational opportunities...perhaps Michael should have taken advantage of the many colleges located in Columbus? Not to mention the smoking ban is now state-wide, although Columbus has had a smoking ban in effect since 2004. Whoa, how backwards is that?!!

I would love to know what reputable study ranked Columbus third in the nation for alcohol consumption. Having one of the largest public universities in the country in Columbus may contribute to a higher rate of alcohol consumption...but that public university is also ranked in the Top 20 Public Universities by U.S. News and World Report. Check out how many top-ranked programs there are at OSU.

You are young and artistic/musician, married with children or gay/bi. Otherwise, don't waste your time here. Lots of college age, lots of clubs and bars and restaurants, including growing hip hop community (diversity is an asset). Big name performers come here Monday through Wednesday. 5th fattest city and 3rd largest gay community in nation.

BET ranks Columbus the #1 city for African America - 2/23/2007
I am done replying to your posts after this. BET did a study of cities and found that Columbus was the best city for well-educated African Americans. They said in their website that Columbus is DIVERSE! If you don't believe me, go to BET.com, type in Columbus, Ohio, scroll down to where it says Best and Worst Cities for Blacks. You will see it in print. Are you all go to argue with a website and television station that promotes and tries to uplift african americans? Let the diversity issue die. It is obvious you are all wrong and BET sees the truth. LA wasn't ranked #1 nor were any of the other cities (Austin for example) that you all mentioned in your posts. Thank you BET for seeing that Columbus is a wonderful Read More

Columbus is Fashionable - 2/23/2007
I posted recently, but I needed to respond to a few people that have compared Columbus to other cities. Columbus is growing rapidly. It has a huge job market for those that are looking for better paying jobs. As for fashion, Columbus is where Victoria's Secret, The Limited, Express, Lane Bryant, Bath and Body Works, etc. are all headquartered. The first Limited store was opened in Columbus. The Limited Brands encompasses all of these stores. When you get that cute skirt out or put that great smelling lotion on remember that it came from Columbus. Oh, but we are so behind in everything. That is funny. We get things before other places do. Most of your everday products are made in Ohio. Its amazing that you talk so much smack about Columbus and Ohio, but know so little about it. Also, Columbus is ranked 12th in Sterling's best places for being a great place to find a date. I think you might be having a hard time finding friends and dates because of your attitudes not Read More
