A safe place with all the right amenities! - 3/21/2023
We've lived here for 3 years and I've lived in Ohio my entire life.

It's probably the best smaller city in the state. A historic town - well maintained and just enough business, food, and entertainment for self sufficiency.

There's plenty of homes/land available in and around the city limits and the city has done a terrific job at limiting new builds catering to Columbus tax credit/ low income housing. It's done a great job at deterring the riff-raff from coming in.

There are some homeless and drug users here; not unlike anywhere else. But the violent crime is extraordinarily low; we haven't had a murder in some 4-5 years. Which is unheard of for a city our size in much of the US.

CONS: This is Ohio! Five months out of a year you can't wear a t-shirt outside. Which really drags for anybody that enjoys warmer weather on the whole.

The humidity in Ohio has been ungodly for the last 5 years alone. It's not so bad in Read More

Too ManyPeople Look AT Lancaster Rather Looking IN - 4/15/2014
God gave us two eyes.
He did so people would look INTO His world, not AT tiny screens.
Even before iPhones visitors were passing by Lancaster's beauty.
They'd rather look at Lindsay Lohan's last mug shot than nature.
Lancaster shows much beauty as you saunter her sidewalks & streets.
Too many people would rather Text at a traffic light than look around.
Some say "Lancaster is all old stuff"
We call that History.
Whether it be The Sherman House or a Golden Gale Trophy Case.
Each carries a history of the Lancaster's people and their sacrifices
The 1st is a reminder of what people sacfriced for their country
The 2nd is a reminder of the youth time sacrificed to win for schools
Decades apart from each other, yet the participants were cause related
Park your car & walk into local businesses to sense their sacrifices.
They could be in Mega Store rather instead of running their Read More

Life In Lank Es Ter, Ohio (Lancaster) - 9/21/2008
I often use my hometown of Lancaster, Ohio, to compare stats with other cities and states. I always see the comment about the pronounciation of Lancaster. In nearly 40 years, I've yet to hear it referred to as "Lank Ster." It is pronounced with three syllables rather than two, although it is not the typical Lancaster as in CA or Bert. For a small town, Lancaster is pretty much self-contained. While Columbus is 20 minutes away, nearly anything needed can be found locally, and the cost of living, as well as the crime rate, is much lower. The Ohio University campus participates in many cultural activities, and it is not uncommon to see the downtown area closed for concerts, art shows, parades and so forth. Lancaster is rich with history and many local museums. While the town has grown, most people are still friendly and there is a sense of small-town living. The job situation has been difficult with the major employer, Anchor Hocking Glass, closing some of their factories.  Read More
