I recently stopped through Adams County with my son,and to my surprise, I walked into a scene from the movie "Mississippi Burning". I had never in my life experience such racism and cruelty from people. My son and I stopped at the local gas station and the people starred so viciously at us to where I had to literally ask a family next to us if there was something wrong. They looked as if they had NEVER seen African American people in their life. I disregarded the negative stares and walked into the gas station to pay for my gas, as I stood in line I clearly heard the man behind me make a racial comment. I ignored his ignorance ,payed for my gas and left as fast as I could. This town in my opinion in definitely no place I would ever want to return to! I thank GOD that my son and I made it out of the town Read More

This place is very quiet and pretty. There is no flood wall, so there is an occasional flood in town. It's surrounded by rural farms. Lots of deer and tobacco and corn farmers. Not a good economy. No major fast food chains. Only one grocery store. Everyone knows everyone unless they are hermits, which is easy to accomplish in this town. Very dead. Feels like you're the only one around sometimes. Kind of depressing. People are mostly poor and there's not much to do unless you go to the neighboring West Union, Ohio or Maysville, Kentucky. Unless you're a farmer, doctor, business owner, teacher or retired, I wouldn't move here. Pretty darn bland. Not very diverse culturally. If there is something fun to do around here besides drive around the "Eat-N-Treat" dairy bar or drive down to the boat dock, I sure would like to know. Of course, one time back in 2000, I did attend a swing dance at a local restaurant. Fun events are few and far between in this town, though. Mostly Read More
